Thanks Abby, I will definatley watch out for that......hopefully if they lay. They are building a nest now out of sticks so touch wood! What do your quakers nest in? A box or do you let them make a nest?
Thanks Shaun

It'd be great if you could get some pics of that Shaun. Really interesting to see. And Angelicvampyre - it all depends on how much time you're willing to spend with them. There are ways to work out time management in regards to feeding etc (cook and freeze on the weekend, pre-chop for a few days ahead etc) that can make that easy. If you have it out around you but not 'with' you that still counts as flock time, you just have to make sure that you spend some time just with it. But yeah, definitely make sure that you have the time before getting one - works out much better for you and your future bird that way. There are also larger birds that aren't as demanding that you could look into.

A box or do you let them make a nest? Thanks Shaun Sorry Shaun, missed this. My guys use a cockatiel size box. There's a gum tree next to the aviary and the leaves tend to fall on the top. What I found last year was that they'd pull the leaves through and then strip them in the box and add to the nesting material I'd supplied. There are so many opinions as to what to use for breeding quakers. My parent bird were hatched in a box with out all the elaborate portico stick nest entrance so I figured they'd breed fine themselves in just a normal type box which they did.

Thanks Abby, I will see how mine go with the nest, but I might go to the cockatiel box with a wire funnel and let them make the entrance next time. We will see how hard it is to access the nest when they are finished.
Thanks Shaun

Just a quick update on my Quakers, They have laid one egg so far. I didnt post any pics of the nest as I was waiting for it to get bigger and more elaborate, but it didnt really get any bigger. They just moved the sticks around until they were happy. I will keep everybody updated on the eggs.

Ok, the Quakers have two chicks at the moment, with 4 eggs still to hatch, along with the eccy egg which is due in a few days also.
