Bad news, but good news. Sad that they have left their bubs, but happy that there is someone else to help out. Hopefully the new foster parents have accepted the babes, they will have their hands full now.

The 4 baby budgies are getting feathers, just as well as it is colder this week than last week. I'll be glad when they fledge as it is the second last breeding box for the season. Another budgie is sitting on 2 eggs and I saw them doing the deed this morning. Oh no, not another egg!!!! I'm over it for the time being.

My peachies are still "doing the deed" and laying and producing babes. I've taken all other boxes from my birds so none of them decide that now is the right time. It is way too cold here now, I am so looking forward to the spring.

I had to take one of my baby tiels to the vet today. The prettiest one of course. Yesterday morning when I went to the aviary she was in the corner, all fluffed up. She had the dirtiest bottom and is very thin. The vet says she has a nasty infection in the intestines. Hopefully she will be alright.

Hope that she is ok, glad to see other people run their birds to the vets (my Budgie club think I am a bleeding heart!) Anyway, I breed my Budgies all year around as my room is heated and air conded so I 4 nest with babies in them at the moment and the rest are starting to look at their boxes. Trying to cut my breeding cages down to 6 boxes. My Green Cheeks and my Quakers have boxes all year around as they sleep in them. My Love birds have not got theirs this time around as I want to wait till my new avairy is built and some of them are young so want to wait till Spring to get them in the mood!

Unfortunately she didn't make it after all the medicine, it struck really fast. I had to bring her sibling in this morning as it was looking unwell. The medicine will come in handy for it.

That is sad Laraine, it was good of you to try - not many people would. Every life is a precious gift - even if it is for such a short time.

The four baby budgies are coming along nicely despite the cold weather. They should fledge very soon. The male Turk is feed them just as he did with her first clutch. I think he is a bit confused. The other female is sitting on 5 eggs.........by the time they hatch it will be really cold.

I've had a really bad breeding season this year and have lost lots of babies. However, in the last week or so I have had 4 female budgies go into the nest and 3 cockatiels. Might actually have something to sell afterall. I was talking to a local bird shop owner just this weekend and he said that everyone in Sydney has had a bad season Laraine, I thought it was just me, he reckons the crazy weather we had over summer was to blame, poor birds couldn't make up their minds what season it was, I'm like you I actually have baby budgies and hens sitting on eggs and one of my 'tiels is sitting on 4 or 5 eggs so it looks like things have settled down a bit. My main problem was that my birds bred but all the babies died, either by the hens going off the nest or by them getting sick. I'm changing my aviaries around next summer so maybe that will help.

Don't feel to bad guys it's been a bit like that up this way as well. I lost an eccie baby & a few fertilized eggs died in shell. Don't know why.
Laraine have you tried the cider vinegar in the birds water, i know a few breeders that swear by it. 5mls to 1 ltr of water, use for their drinking water. Might be worth a try.

No Robyn I haven't heard about that. How does it help? Is it the apple cider vinegar?

Well the breeding boxes are going in this weekend (I need the space in my shed). Hopefully a better season this year as last year was a disaster on all fronts. Fingers crossed.

Good luck Laraine, im hoping aswel to have a better season than last year as the heat stuffed alot of my birds up. I am only putting down 9 pairs this season as most of the birds i have are to young at the moment.

How is the little turk hen going Laraine? Have you found out what the red markings are?

She is going OK, haven't really investigated the red markings. My other 2 female Opalines have them as well. So far she and the male aren't showing much interest in each other. She spends a lot of time sitting on the floor looking out. I have a lot of budgies in that aviary which I am going to move when I get my new aviary. Just keeping my show budgies and a few Neophemas in there. All my budgie babies are in that aviary but am taking 5 out for sale this weekend.
Robyn mentioned cider vinegar in the drinking water. Does anyone know about this?

Sorry Laraine i just noticed i didn't answer that. The cider vinegar is supposed to help with the PH level in the gut or so i am told. Mike may know a bit more about it. Just knew a lady that bred budgies, always gave her birds that in their drinking once a week. Robyn.
