Well from what i have been able to find out it's used as a water cleansing agent. 5mls per 1 liter of water. A lot of Budgie & finch Breeders use it as a sort of tonic once a week or fortnight. Suppose to cure a lot of ailments. I guess it kind of keeps the gut clear of some bacteria. Sort of like shutting the gate before the horse bolts. If you get my reasoning.

Sounds like a good old fashioned remedy, thanks Robyn, I'll give it a try on all my birds once a week.

after reading this post from start to finish I'm starting to feel guilty about saying that I have had a great season with my birds ( and they are still at it). so far I have over 80 young finches in my holding aviary and there are still birds with young, others on eggs and a few pairs building new nests. took my apir of st helena finches two years to get it right but now they wont stop lol.
hope everyone has better luck this time around with their birds

it's been a while since I remembered to come & visit. between crazy hours at work and being a moderator on a forum that is dedicated to finches & softbills. I didnt find much time for anything. have plenty of time on my hands at the moment though, no longer have a job plenty more jobs out there though, should be working again in a week or two. yes I do sell the young birds. but not until they have attained their adult plumage. do prefer to swap birds with other members of the local bird society though
