hi guys, hope every one is going fine.I have 3 12 month old ringnecks and was thinking about taming them. i have held my amazon he is green/ and with in the first time i had him out he was sitting on my finger and hopping on my shoulder ,but he also gave me some pretty nasty bites,he is sorta stepping up sometimes but he usually uses his beak to bite onto my finger to get up instead of just using his feet, since i have handled him a couple of times he doesnt seem to be very flighty in the cage, although the thing is i got him from a lady that just had him in a flight cage. My grey girl stormy i have gotten her out of her cage and i sung to her for about 10 mins i gave her a lil bit of affection but she seemed to be more flighty in the room then amazon so i didnt want to stress her out to much, she is a lil flighty in the cage when i give them food and water ,she normally flys to the bottom and is ok where amazon will just look at what your doing, and sometimes if stormy flutters then amazon will it just depends. I also have a lutino girl and she is a lil flighty to but i havent handled her yet but when i trasferred her in to her new cage she squarked alot so i dont know how i would go with her?? then there is a grey IRN that my partner got that a bredder was selling and he got him cozhe felt sorry for him coz he is missing a toe on one foot and a nail on the other he comes up to you if you sit by the cage and talk to him and he is never flighty when you put food and water in i seem to think that he is fairly tame and a beautiful bird appart from his lil foot problem but i havent handled him yet can anyone give me some advise on taming my flock or what is the best thing to do?? even if i just leave them? thank-you to any one who posts back ;D

Please don't be offended finefeathers but I have just divided your post into paragraphs because it was hard to read in one non-stop block. This way more people will be able to help If you read abit of our ringneck section you'll see some advice given to 'oceanaussie' on her IRN hen, some of these tips may help you I think you'll need alot of patience with mature IRNs

A lot will depend on the ages of your birds and if they were tame or aviary birds etc. It sounds like your birds are not too bad already. So maybe just continue with what you have been doing. Patience is one of the things too. How old are your birds and how long have you had them??

hey tracey (I apoligise if i got your name wrong) My name is Krystle, nice to meet you. well the grey hen and the green/blu/cinnamon cock are about 12 months old so i was told but you can see the ring strting to come through on the male so im guessing they are a little older and amazon is bopping his head all the time for mating ,but im not sure if stormy is ready yet i dont have a nesting box in there but i wasnt sure if i should have one in there or not coz i dont want stormy to get egg bound or nething.i have had those to for about a month. Tweety my lutino hen i dont know how old she is but she dosent have any like fluffy fethers she is all smooth like the 2 yr olds where stormy and amazon still look a lil puffy.i was told is is at least 12months old to.then she is in with a grey cock im not sure if he is split but i know he is mature because he has his proper ring.Again i havent got a box in there because im not sure if it is best to have on in there or not.I have a box to put in there and if i needed to i will. If you guys can give me advise that would be great.

well you got my name right ;D ;D
Gee you will have your work cut out trying to tame all those birds at once. But it really sounds like you must be doing something right already.
You might be able to tame some down but some of the others might be a bit harder.
If you are going to eventually breed with them, why do you want to tame them??? Indian ringnecks need a lot of attention from an early age and that attention needs to be kept up for them to be very tame pets. They are not a touchy feely bird at the best of times and when tame are usually just content to sit on your shoulder and preen your hair ...... that is what can make them happy.
