Ok I have been researching like mad and driving myself nuts. After a week of research I am no closer to what size cage to get Astro/Altas/Elmo (name to be decided) for my King Parrot. I am getting him on Saturday and at the moment I have this cage cgi.ebay.com.au/32-Deluxe-Flight-Cage-with-Stand-Bird-RRP-299_W0QQitemZ370085367012QQihZ024QQcategoryZ164484QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemEbay Item Number in case link does not work - 370085367012 The only difference is mine has two doors not one big one. I figure for the time being that should be ok right? Or should I look at getting a bigger cage ASAP? I have seen people with African Greys in this cage and King Parrots in this cage but not sure if it will be ok. I have thought about getting something like this www.gtmall.com.au/p68/Bird-Parrot-Cage-with-Play-Top/product_info.htmlBut I am just so confused? Does anyone have a king parrot and if so what size cage do you keep them in? He will have a play gym/branh for outside time but he will have to live in the cage while I am at work and I will try to keep him out as much as possible when I am home. Any help would be great. this is my first large bird so freaking out!

I have that cage for my greencheek Trouble, and I believe Mike keeps his two African Greys in the same type as well (keep in mind they are out for a lot of the day). It's a good cage - very sturdy, and the height is decent for still putting a playstand on top. It doesn't quite meet the requirements for width that was on the site I linked you, but with the extra length and height I think it would be okay. My suggestion to you would be if you already have that cage or something very similar, keep with that for now. Once you've got him you'll be able to get to know his needs and see how you feel about it and then purchase another cage if necessary. There won't be any harm done to him keeping him in one like that for a couple of weeks while you make a decision, and it's better than rushing to buy him another one and getting fretful yourself.

The cage you have is just fine - no need to worry about a larger cage. Our pair of Kings shared the same cage as you have, and even though we don't have them now they went with their cage and still live in it quite happily in their new home. Kings are not a bird that particularly needs a very big cage. They don't tend to move a round a lot, nor are they especially playful with toys. So having a bigger cage is not necessarily any better for them since they won't make use of the extra space. My two African Greys share exactly the same cage as you have and it works out fine for them even though they are more active in their cage. King Parrots are really a pretty easy bird to look after, so don't worry - you won't have any problems I'm sure. Just relax and enjoy Look after him the same as you would a cockatiel - exactly the same sort of requirements. cheers, Mike

Ok thanks guys. I guess it's just that in the past month I got fish did everything I thought was right and they all died so now I second guess myself and worry that I am going about things the wrong way. Will move him into my existing cage and work out if he needs more. Thanks for the quick replies.

Ok so I set up the cage - that took alot of work as I had to move Budgies around and clean out cages and clean this one and dismantle a bed..... So here it is all ready for him tomorrow (I have to add news paper but can't be bothered going back out to the Budge room tonight) It's a start.

Thank Bird Crazy, he is not so crazy on the whole cage thing he would rather spend all his time trying to eat my keyboard and out and about in the room but now I see him in it I know that it is big enough. Down the track I might get him a bigger one but this will do for now. Thanks everyone for your help.
