Hey guys I got an Alexandrine about 9 days ago, Hand reared and a big cage for him. I want to get him a friend and i really would love a handreared Rainbow Lorikeet. My Questions: Will having two birds together make them less tame and will this make them not want to be with me as much as they have eachother as friends too? I will need to get the lorikeet to trust me when he first gets here so he becomes my little pal, Will having an Alexandrine around make this harder? Is this a good idea (or bad)? explain why please Do you think i could have them in the same cage? Also as i don't think the lorikeet will be sexed, If its a girl they wont mate will they? Anymore information i need to know would be greatly appreciated. THANKS ALOT

I think that it depends on the bonding level you want with your birds. If you want a very close bond with your alex then you would be better to wait until you complete this bond in a few months before adding a new friend. I am saying this taking into account that you have been concerned that your alex prefers your Dad etc. If you are concerned about the amount of time you have for your birds then 2 will be a good idea as they can keep each other entertained while you are at work. But you will have to try and put as much time as you can in the early stages to cement the bond with you and it sounds like your alex needs abit more time still. It's good to hear you are definatly catching the bird bug

I agree with Jane.............I would not be getting another bird until you have bonded with yur Alex now. A lorikeet would be ok but not in the same cage. I now own 2 lorikeets as of this week. Fezz is just such a character but I would not house him with my alex's as they have huge beaks and could do some serious damage if they wanted to. Plus the lorikeets have different food requirements.........well probably not that different but they require lorikeet mix and I don't think I want my alex's eating that.
The lorikeets seem to be very active, always on the go types of birds...........whereas my alex's are not quite in the same speed as Fezz

My Alex Vincent loves every other bird. And loves to help me feed the baby alex's. His best friend in our little scaley brested lorikeet (chucky). Vincent is so gentle with the baby birds and loves Chucky but Chucky can get a bit to playful and will bite Vincents feet sometimes. I would trust a alex with any other bird but |I wouldn't trust another bird with an Alex. Alexandrines are gentle giants. I would also wait until your alex is older before getting another bird. Another bird would scare the baby alex.

Yes Tracey, Takoda would be only scared of the other birds. When he is a bit older hewill be fine with them. Vincent was the same when he was younger now he can't get enough of them.
