Well the first couple of days in a new house with new people and new cages/toys and sounds and smells is a bit of a shock to a new bird.
I expect your bird will start to feel a lot more comfortable with you each day but you probably wont see the 'real personality" for a couple of weeks. Each bird is different, but handling it and letting it learn you are a good thing to have around is a good thing. Even just letting it sit on your shoulder.
Congrats on your new bird too the lorikeets are just so darn cute and playful.

If you handling it for over 1 hour a day it should be pretty tame in a week or two. Like vankarhi said ever birds different so it could take long sometimes.

Let him get used to a new environment , he will be a little frightened . Always coax the bird to you with a treat , never grab at him , be gentle in handling and sit n talk to him . I have many Rainbows all come when i call them including the avairy birds . I also have a wild bred fledgling saved from the Black Saturday fires , hes just like a handreared after one week , and he was near death when i got him . He also talks now , that only took a week , just be gentle and kind , allow him to come to you -as i said , patience pays off very quickly .
