I am not confident enough to crop feed although I wish I was. With my current luck it would end up sticking out of the bird's neck. LOL.

I'm with you Laraine never have crop fed and never will, I'm not that clever, Just a follow up on the two birds that were mentioned in the original post, they are both okay now and have actually paired up, one being a hen the other a cock, so I will put them both back in the aviary this weekend,
The little bloke with the split bottom mandible is eating okay and his eye infection has cleared up so back they go to join the rest of the budgies.

i crop fed years ago and never will again the tube came of the syringe and got stuck in the crop after a call to a vet at midnight he told me if the bird makes it through the night bring it in he would cut it out as he said when a bird swallows there is a flap that shuts so once in stays in.
Much to my joy the next morning the tube was on the bottom of the box so i dont know about the flap thing but i will never crop feed again. j

I actually had a similar thing happen to me with BB.......I rushed him out to a friend of mine at 8.10 in the morning (it is a 15 min drive and I start work at 9am) ......... Richo worked the tube up and out and I was in tears while holding BB. BB is fine now and never had a problem. I am a lot more careful now........by the way I got to work that day right on 9am. I tried not to speed much. I drove to Richo's then drove BB back home, then off back to work.

Thanks Shaun, I am pretty sure with the weather the way it has been here lately I had mites in the budgie aviary so this morning it was clean out time everything came out and the aviary was scrubbed and disinfected, all the food stands and perches were sprayed with a mite and lice spray and everything was cleaned even the nesting boxes were dusted.
It has been very humid here this last couple of weeks and it is still raining this morning so I guess it wont hurt to give the aviaries a good going over.

Fido Wash is an excellent product to kill mites and to spray around the aviary to kill the rest off. Concentrate is about $55-$60 for 500ml but it lasts forever. I make mine up into the squirter bottles and give them a dose monthly in summer. Fido Wash is so much cheaper than the proper mite & lice spray. It's name suggest only for dogs but it does all animals without issue.
