I was looking at my cages yesterday and i worked out that I have a bunch of dead space above the cages. it currently looks like this. On Elmos cage there is a Bath, sand box, branch and whatever toy he has dragged from the toy box up to the top of his cage. thanks to Robert I found My Parrot Shop website and have been thinking about converting the top of his cage to a play gym area. He has a play stand next to his cage which I made and he loves but I though his would give him and whoever else comes to live with me some more room. So I was thinking about this www.myparrotshop.com/playstands/adventure-playground/prod_535.htmlAny maybe one of these to hand from the room somehow www.myparrotshop.com/playstands/get-a-grip-medium/prod_276.htmlI figure the get a grip would only need to be a medium Any other ideas?

AV, something like that would work well, but it seems a bit expensive when maybe you could rig up something yourself & use the whole top of the cage, that way you could change the design all the time so Elmo doesn't get bored to quick. I don't suppose you could use some of his play stand you made seeing he loves that so much. Its food for thought anyway.
I get in hubby's shed & pull all the tools out to make stuff for the birds. I even built most of my nest boxes & had a crack at a cage, timber frame but don't tell anyone hubby helped with that one. I kinda of bit off a bit more than i could chew with that project.

It took me weeks to make the play stand so I was going for the easy option but I might look into making a get a grib myself as that dose not look to hard but the cage top play stands could be pushing myself a bit.

Thanks .... My grip-a-net is the large one ... if i was going to buy one from MPS i would probably only get a medium one ... cause i find with the large one unless you have someone that is willing and happy for it to hang all over the place .. it doesnt get used to its full advantage.
I also love the tree branch playstands i scored one of ebay and the other come with a bird i got given ..
But sooooo easy to make my fiance and i made a table top one for around $5 .... we went to our local hardware shop and just asked for any off cut of anything laminated, went out and got some fallen tree branches and brought the screws to put it together ...

I have a sml get a grip net , i would recommend if you want a decent size one to get a medium, i couldnt fit a medium where i wanted it but when i get a bit more space ill grab some more...expensive but they do last, the amazon at work has had his for a few years now I think and it has has cockatoo's, the amazon, 7 alexs, ringnecks and different conures and quakers on it and it still isnt broken (not all at the same time..alex's were).

I might have to look into the grip a net thingy. I could hang it from the ceiling above Erik's cage.....I reckon he would like that. I could swap to from time to time to be in the dining room near the play stand I made.....at the moment I have a dog chain hanging with a toy on it and Erik plays on that swinging from the boing to the chain and climbing from the boing to the playstand.

Ahhh Tracey pitty ya didnt decide earlier ... i believe My Parrot Shop just put up the prices on their starbird products .. being the people who make the grip-a-net ...
But to me i would still say they are way worth the price ... but also i'd probably only buy a medium one if i was going to do it again

yes I made myself one too but mine is in a huge terracotta pot and hubby made a little stand on casters so I can move it around with ease. I found some big branches and used expanda foam (after I found 100kg of rocks just too heavy to move around) and then painted the expanda foam once it was dry.

There is a pattern for making your own net on the internet, in a craft site. I would give you the URL but the print out is in Dustys bedroom and she's asleep...I'll post the info tomorrow. You can save heaps of money by making your own.
