The red Powder Puff is a native of Bolivia in South America and is a member of the Mimosa family. It is grown quite extensively in the USA in warmer areas that don't get frosts, and is apparently very popular in gardens to attract hummingbirds.
So, since hummingbirds like the nectar from the flowers, the flowers are probably safe for parrots. My rule of thumb for assessing plants is that if I see the Australian Lorikeets feeding from the flowers then it is probably going to be safe for other birds to feed on those flowers.
However there is a word of warning there since lorikeets feed on the nectar, while parrots such as budgies and cockatiels chew on the leaves and stems as well. So it is always possible that the nectar and flower is safe but not the leaves.
In the end it is best to be safe than sorry and look for known safe plants such as grevilleas, wattle and bottlebrush.
cheers,
Mike

Here we call it a "pom pom tree" and I have one in my yard but have never given it to my birds......and probably wont either. I give mine bottle brush and grevillias etc which I know are safe.

I'm very cautious as well. But would like to know if anyone feeds their birds capsicum or cucumber?

My finches go crazy for cucumber. They don't eat the skin, I cut into 4 wedges and they eat right down to the skin. As for my parrots, they eat capsicum and just about any other vege that I give them. And my darling Azizi will even eat your finger if you stick it in his cage!

Yes, my birds eat cucumber and are not that keen on capsicum, but I still provide it occasionally just in case.
If you have it left over, it should be fine as long as it has no dressings on it. ;D Hate to see their little faces screwed up with some of the vinegary potions they sell for salad dressing. hahaha.
I try my birds with all kinds of fruits and veges. Sometimes they like them, sometimes they don't. The canaries used to love grapes, but just the round, fat red ones. They don't much like them now. I think they may change their likes and dislikes with seasonal fruit and vege, as they would when it was out of supply in the wild. But that's just my opinion.
Oh, and I probably wouldn't put any of your powder puff plant in your salad either. (Only joking).
Cheers, Shauna ;D
