A friend sent me these photo's of a SC Too that was supposed to have walked out of the ashes of the Vic fires. He told me that this poor bird had all its feathers shinged. What do you guys think. I do have my suspicions.

Looking at him I don't think fire was the cause of feather loss. No burns, and none of the feathers that he still has show any discolouration from being burnt, or from smoke.

A classic Beak & Feather Disease cockatoo!!!!
If it had been fire damage the bird would have been burnt all over - in fact dead.
Just look at the overgrown and shiny beak, quite apart from the terrible feather condition. This bird would not hav ebeen able to survive in the wild at this advanced stage of disease - it must have been someone's pet bird to have stayed alive in such a condition.
cheers,
Mike

Well yes PBFD is what i also thought & AV has found a link on what looks like the same bird. Its posted in another thread. Poor bird. Looks like he is being well cared for, wonder if he was someones pet as he certainly seems tame enough.

From what I've seen (personal experience and from others) birds with PBFD do tend to be more friendly for some reason. Within a week Squee was actively playing with me and seeking out my attention wanting cuddles, and he was a wild bird. He also approached the person who gave him to me - they didn't have to chase him to catch him, he walked right up to them. Jedi and Trouble, both of whom were handraised, took longer to adjust to me and want to hang out.

Years ago when i thought only Pet Shops sold birds i found a beautiful Little Corella in this Pet Shop he was talking & was so affectionate & only a young bird. He was a little shabby but the shop owner reassured me it was only from being in the small cage & that was grotty as well. So i took him home. Long story short. When he went through his 12 month moult & a trip to the Vet i knew why he was shabby he had PBFD. He was a little darling & suffered a horrible death. Everything went wrong with him so we had to have him put to sleep. Not a fan of Pet Shops up this way they really don't have a glue. I later found out he was taken from the wild as a fledgling. But i just couldn't get over how friendly & cuddly he was, even with all the treatment.
