A friend found a baby bird and gave it to me today. I'm going to take it to a wildlife carer but I can't until Monday at the very earliest, and it is Saturday now. Here are some pictures of it. It was found in the middle of the road in town, being harassed by some mynah birds. It is not injured, but is quite skinny. Its got some flight feathers (but can't fly over a few inches from the ground)..I need to know what I can do to keep it alive and okay until I can take it to someone experienced. It can perch. I've been feeding it water with honey in it, and its been licking it up..about 3 teaspoon fulls actually. What can I feed it? Should I keep it warm over night (especially seeing as it is winter)? What bird is it? Any help would be really really good, please reply ASAP. Thanks.

I don't know what type of bird it is, but I would take it to a vet if you can and they will try to find a wild life carer for it. I have done this before. Failing that I would try some baby bird formular which I do have in my freezer as I do raise some babies during the year. But you could try and go to a pet shop they might give you a small amount to see you through until you can get it to a carer. You will need to ask how to mix the formula though and make sure it is not too hot or too cool and make sure it is a bit runny and not too thick or thin etc etc. It sounds a bit hard.....it isn't really, but it does need to be done properly. I would feed it with a spoon too.

oh and yes it will need to be kept a little warm. Even if in a little covered box with a towel and fluffy toy to snuggle up too and kept in a warm spot......but not too hot as they can overheat.

Okay thanks for the replies. I've got handrearing mix for budgies/cockatiels etc, don't know how that would work for this bird? Should I feed it the handraising mix, if so, what consistency and temperature? I've fed budgies and other parrots like that but not this kind of bird.
I know of a carer about 30mins away but unfortunately won't be able to get there until Monday. That's why I need to know how to take care of it for now.

can the carer come to you??? Megan said it is a Mynah and needs insectivous food. Quite often carers will travel as I had a friend who did caring and she travelled at times to pick up animals.

I may be wrong in saying this, but they are a pest and alot of local councils supply residents with the appropriate items to catch and discard of this species. Would a wildlife carer take on a Mynah?
