My mate Bob has a few pairs Damo, not sure what he feeds them but he did tell me that they need a very small nest box. He also put in a palm stump that one of his pairs have chewed out to make a nest chamber.
It was illegal for us to keep them in Qld until this year. All other states have been able to keep for years. Strange our Government.
They cost around $3000 a pair from a breeder.
I can get more info from Bob should you need it.
Robyn.

same alot of people say this and that is hard but depends on the set-up and the birds and what you feed them.
Ben what i was going to ask you a friend has an aviary 5 meters Long and planted is this enough room for a pair of Laughing kookaburras?

How wide is it? they need atleast 2m wide to be comfortable. 5 m is more then enough length. they dont move around alot and dont climb wire.

too skinny, kookaburras do not cope well in parrot flights, they need square box type aviaries like finches. they will smash against the wire on the sides of that. You;ll end up with Tailess kookas and they wont tame down as well, if they are not take food out of your hand tame they wont breed as they are too scared of you.

I do not keep any pairs at the moment as they are not allowed to be held privatley in QLD, in South Australia i held a wide range of species. We have Blue Winged Kookas as work, and my Handraised Laughing Kooka, aswell as my tame tawny frogmouth and his parents. I sold off just about everything when i moved up here. Thats the problem establishing a large collection when you are young, life takes over.

You know what tracey, even when i had 4 pairs of them, they never ever woke me up. You get so used to it. But when i was out and heard a different kooka it stands out.

Sugars are fine like that, dont need lots of space. That is normal price, although i prefer Squirrel Gliders.

We have some kookas around here again and I just love listening to them I also love roosters crowing too.......but with neighbours it is impossible to enjoy. I always worry that my birds are annoying everyone else....they don't bother me ;D
