Some weeks ago I bought a whole lot of new Peach face, mostly pied I had 4 pair and a spare male, when i bought them I was told they were about 8 months old and should be ready for breeding, well one of the hens has laid 6 eggs and I was hopeful she would have babies as this were her second lot and the first ones were empty, she had mated with a cross Fischer/peach face and he was infertile.
I got rid of the cross, replaced it and hoped she would mate again which she did with a very nice pied male and as I said laid six eggs well Monday there was one new chick in the box and today another egg has hatched, from what I can see the first chick has yellow down so heres hoping it is nice colour.
Just on another note the bird I replaced the cross with was a very nice Olive bird and he has paired up with a pied hen and they are sitting on 4 eggs at the moment so it's pretty exciting times here at the moment

That is fantastic news, in such a short time - they must be totally content with where they are. I love my peachies, they are great little birds, just personality plus and so comical in the way they climb and jump around. Mine are on eggs again, so I have my fingers crossed for both of us. Have you got any pics of your pieds? We bought one a while back and he was really heavily pied, now he seems to have lost some of his colour? ? Is this normal?

Oh yes, I remember looking at these little stunners! Have they kept their colouring? This is my little fella, he has started to lose some of the green off his back, not all of it, just some of it. His little lady is on 4 eggs at the moment, so I can't wait to see what the colours of their babes come out. The six above him in the pic are six of my babies from other parents. I had only just purchased him when I took this picture.

I couldn't resist, I went out and took a pic this morning. Mum happily obliged. She moved over in the nest whilst I took this pic.

I give them the whole thing. They use the outside for the nests and then eat the inside. I also give them branches with leaves on. Because there are ample gum trees here, I just give them those, and they shred them up themselves and build thier nests up.

I use Palm Fonds they will strip them bare in a day fortunatly I have prety good suply of them, there was another baby this morning that's four from six, two to go.
I must tell you these peachies are the strangest birds I have had, the hen laid six eggs and did not incubate them once during the day, she would sit on them at night but not during the day light hours, I was just about to throw the eggs out and get rid of her because I thought she was not furtile, boy was i wrong!!!!!!!
