I'm no great expert on Conure mutations and since some here know about the pied Suns, I would appreciate comments on the Sun in the photos. We sold the bird early this year when it was still in baby colours, but it has come back to us and is now fully coloured, and is beautiful - and mostly yellow!! I am assuming it is what in Australia is called a pied but I would like confirmation of this. With a Jenday in one of the photos. cheers, Mike

Agreed. Robyn has posted a few pics of pied chicks somewhere here with a good example on one little fellow.

Yes Mike its what they call an East Coast Pied. Lewis sorry it isn't a WA Golden. They have white clear flights no green through the yellow wings, more a lemon coloration with not a lot of orange. Pale feet & toe nails. Mike that little guy you have there will intensify in colour as it matures. I think its amazing how yellow these birds are at their first moult. If you have A Guide to Colour Mutations & Genetics in Parrots there is a good example of the first chick hatched in WA. Mike this is a pic of the latest chick i have bred its about 7 - 8 weeks old. Its still not the best but i am working with the mutation to see if i can come up with the perfect Pied. This little chick has 70% yellow flights. I have come to a brick wall with my research on this mutation. Still trying to work out if its a recessive gene or double factor. So at this point in time not 100% sure if mine are Goldens or EC Pieds. Robyn.

Thanks Robyn, I might put in an email to the Genetics-Psittacine group and see what the latest is on them. Your young bird is obviously a pied even though a baby - this one looked like a normal Sun as a baby with a fair amount of body green which moulted out to yellow. Are they like normal Suns with variable green as babies? In the meantime here is another photo showing a flight feather, with white lower part but some green towards the top of the shaft. cheers, Mike

Mike, Just got these pic's sent to me last night thought you'd all like to see what a WA Pied or Golden Sun looks like. I do think there are a hell of a lot of splits out there which would explain a lot more yellow birds being bred. Robyn.
