Has anyone tried this recipe to boost the fertility of their male birds.
Mix 1 teaspoon of molasses, 1 or 2 drops of Betadine 3 or 5 drops of vitamin B complex In one litre of water
You start about 2 months before the breeding season.

Can't say i have Laraine, have never even heard of it. I just use the Vetafarm Breeding Aid & Trace Minerals seems to work ok for me. But it does not work if a pair isn't compatible

My birds seem to lay a lot of clear eggs even if they have a partner. I'd like to try it next season but don't want to poison my birds. With the breeding aid, is that the one you mix with their seed?

Gee Laraine I don't like the sound of bettadine being taken internally. I wouldn't use it.

If a pair of birds get a good general diet then infertile eggs will likely not be a nutritional problem. Compatibility can often be an issue with it causing mating to be unsuccessful, if indeed any mating even takes place. Poor perches can be an issue, meaning the hen can't keep her balance. Failure to properly incubate is an issue, particularly if there are disturbances around the aviary, especially at night. Mice, rats and stray cats for instance could scare the hen off the nest overnight and she won't return until dawn, by which time the eggs could have gone cold. With large budgies - English type - often fertility is poor just because they are so large and unable to properly mate. That recipe you have given Laraine sounds like a typical old time budgie breeders recipe and I would much rather use something like Breeders Aid, or even just a general Vitamin & Mineral supplement a couple of times a week if you think the birds are missing something in their diet. cheers, Mike

Thanks for the advice Mike, I was worried about giving them Betadine. I might stick to the Breeding Aid.
