Hi everyone as you all know i brought a cockatiel from the pet shop well i found out they hand raised them at 4 weeks old, And have been a play gym since fully feathered. Meaning my bird has learnt to eat outside of a cage, He/she doesn't know to eat inside a cage. I can't leave my bird roam free all day as i do have things to do around the house during the day which takes me out of the room he/she is in. How can i get him to eat inside the cage? So far what i have been doing is leaving him inside the cage only taking him out when i want to handle him, so far he seems to be eatting a bit of seed but as soon as he/she sees me he will stop eatting and beg to come out of the cage. He will drink good in the cage but not much food, I keep convincing him to go to the food bowl. His also gotta learn how to get around in the cage like get from top perch to bottom perch where his bowls are. I can't move the bowls cause there attached to the cage well the things that hold the bowls are.
Cause i brought him from the pet shop he isn't too keen on veggies so far i've tryed corn,beans,snowpeas,sweet potato,capsicum and sprouts. He will eat all the sprouts,but leave the rest. I've only owned him for 5 days now so i know it will take time. Tommorrow i'm trying him on frozen/thawed corn,peas,carrot and some cooked rice.
Like i said the main problem is getting him to eat inside his cage, he could be eatting but as soon as he sees me walk past or enter the room he will stop and beg to come out. I don't think the name storm or any of the stromy names suit. So if anyone has any names that will suit a cheeky,sweet natured,cuddly bird feel free to post some.
