Chillis are also used as a aphrodisiac for birds leading up to and during the breeding season ! Trust me it doesn't work as a aphrodisiac on my birds. That said i use chillie for the vitamin benefits & as a worm preventative. Before anyone challanges that comment. I have never had to worm my birds or had any worm problem in 20 years of breeding birds & regularly have droppings tested without any sign of worm eggs, all clear so i guess there must be some truth in it or i have been extremly lucky. Chilli - Another natural aphrodisiac is different types of chilli, from colorful bell peppers to the potent bird eye chilli. Chillies contain capsaicin which is a chemical that is believed to release endorphins in our body. This stimulates the nerve endings, making the body highly sensitive and increasing the pulse. One of the reasons chillies are considered to be an aphrodisiac is that after consuming chillies, a person's body temperature rises, he/she has flushed cheeks which are classic signs of sexual arousal. By Dr: Rimlee Bhuyan Published: 11/11/2010 This is also proven to work on birds

That maybe so in humans although i wouldn't know about all that I don't eat them. To be totally honest i don't believe in that either. All it seems to do to me if i kiss my birds after they have eaten their daily serve is a burning mouth & my eyes water like hell. As far as setting my birds off forget it. If the birds are compatable they will breed if not no amount of chillie will help. Just ask my Elliot the Eclectus & he has had 4 G/F now. My parrots get a few chillies everyday of the year. Eagle seeing you seem to know these things why do all the wild birds get stuck into the birds eye chillie bushes surely it's not to set the girl birds off & get them all nesty.

Well that is something I am gonna do a little more research into. I am not sure if it's right or even how much it may affect them. I give my birds chilli every day, various different kinds (we love chilli in our house ) & don't really see any effects on them. Or maybe they are there & I'm just not seeing them?? Anyway it will be interesting to find out a bit more about it.

Hi Robyn I have been using chillies for years and it has a little effect on the birds breeding but it’s nothing major. They do have a clear effect in my records i do notice if given the chilli leading up to the breeding season they do tend to go to nest earlier than birds than don’t get it. This is good for me as we can get the second clutch parent raised and fledged before the summer heat really kicks in December / January and frees us up for Christmas as it is a little hard to have Christmas while feeding over 70 birds All birds LOVE fresh seeds the BEST food you can ever give your bird is FRESH grown GREEN seed that you have growing in your back yard we grow a lot of fresh millet from left over seed in the dishes I guess they attack your chilli bushes to get the fresh seeds inside the chilli it would be a part of their food source at your place / area I have no problem with wild birds eating mine they just don’t seem to go near the bush

Thank you Eagle. That might explain why my birds breed all year round. LOL.
Know what you mean about rearing 70 odd babies not a lot of fun around Christmas. I try to avoid it as much as possible.
