I've only been a member here for a short while, but have spent hours reading through many of the posts in the sections that are of interest to me, and have have found lots of great helpful information there.
This is a great forum, but is it normally this quiet?
I pop in here a lot each day, and sometimes there's been no posts from one visit to another.
Please don't think that I'm complaining, it's just an observation on my part.
Cheers,
John.

Hi All I'm a newbie here, so my opinion doesn't count for much & I hope mo offense is taken, as I mean this constructively. If people only lurk & not post, a forum stays quiet & doesn't grow. For sure, I don't reply if I don't know the answer. For example I don't know how GCC do in avaries, as my conure is an inside bird and I also don't know the price of black cockatoos, so it was no point me replying to those threads. But what I noticed is I have had 25 views of my introduction thread, with only 2 replies. Now, I really dont want a rush of replies now it's ok I'm thick skinned. I'm just saying that from a Newbies point of view if you're looking for an active forum & you join a few to see where you fit, you're going to spend more time at the forum that makes you feel more welcomed & where there are lots of active members. The other thing that I think attracts more active members is to make the mobile experience easier for those with smart phones. There are lots of FREE Apps out there for forum owners that make it easier for iPhone, blackberry, nokia & other smart phone users be able to participate on the go. For the forum owner there's usually a free plugin & the co makes it's money from the user, usually only $2 - $3 once only cost. For me, it's so worth it. I usually don't visit forums very much that aren't mobile friendly, because its really not much fun & is very awkward using a browser for forums on a phone. I don't think I'm the only one that thinks this way. Maybe not for existing members, but you may find it helps bring in new members looking for an easier way to participate on the go. I'd love to participate more here. I'm a member of several O/S forums, but really enjoy this one for it's local Aussie flavour. Just a few thoughts.

Like you I think people only respond to what they know and for me that was Mike and Greg helping me with turks. I know nothing about the larger parrots but I read the comments and don't have much to say so I don't. It is such s friendly forum tho.

Yes it is quiet on occasions, but one can unwittingly fire it up and bring members out of the woodwork that haven't been heard from for some time as I found out. The people here are excellent and the forum does live up to its name. Fire up a thread and see what response you get. There really are some very clever, knowledgeable and amazing people here.

I don't do Facebook - I'll stick to forums, well this forum actually, since the only other one I'm on is a fish one.
cheers,
Mike

well there are facebook groups too in which there are a few bird groups too (probably many other groups also). I did belong to a few........but deleted myself a couple of months ago. I do facebook........but it is more a case of keeping up with what is going on in my local part of the world and my kids.
