Yes I totally agree. You are helpful, friendly and knowledgable and for novices like me you are truly appreciated. Warm regards, Lesley

I started this thread back on the 3rd November 2010, and have been away for quite a while, years in fact, for a number of reasons. I've recently returned but find that the forum is still very quiet, even though this thread has been viewed 822 times, and there have been 22 replies. I'll persist with it for a little while longer, even though I might be talking to myself at times.

This is a great forum, but is it normally this quiet? I pop in here a lot each day, and sometimes there's been no posts from one visit to another. It does tend to go through quiet periods, and doesn't get the social chit chat that used to occur - I think much of that must have gone to Facebook etc. These days it is more restricted to problem solving - if someone has a question then we try to answer it to the best of our ability. Sometimes there is a lot of traffic with questions and answers and other times there isn't. cheers, Mike

There hasn't been a post in days, and that one was made by me. I'm a member of a few other bird forums, and it seems that the Aussie ones have suffered the same fate as this one whilst the overseas forums are very active.

Maybe the change in format has scared people away! I don't belong to any other Australian forum, but I am part of several US invitation only ones, and they are pretty active at the moment. Is Facebook taking the place of forums? Personally I don't do Facebook - I find so much of the chatter there to be disorganized mindless drivel, and I rapidly lose interest.
cheers,
Mike

Mike, I personally don't believe that Face Book is taking over from the forums, but having said that I'm like you and I don't do Face Book. I'm sure that the new format has nothing to do with the lack of partipation by the members, however there's no doubt this forum is suffering due to lack of participation from the people who started it, and who seem to have forgotten that it exists. Having run forums myself I believe that to have an active forum the admin staff need to start interesting threads that members will want to reply to, and empower members to do the same I belong to one other Aussie bird forum which is almost as quiet as this one featherz.proboards.com/index.cgi
