I was just putting BOB into his outside cage and left him for a minute and he had gotten out of his larger cage. He was a bit funny this morning but that is typical for this time of year. He fleww away and into the bushland at the end of our street. ! minute later I was there calling his name, nothing, then he started screaming over and over again, I thought a snake had got him. So I run into the scrub with thongs on and get to him and a Kyte has him on the ground biting him. He flies of as I get there and BOB is alive but unable to move, he bites me naturally and I've got him home and he is in shock.
Not much blood just on one of his wings and lots of loose feathers on his chest but no major bleeding. I'm letting him catch his breath at the moment and will clean him up later hopefully he will be OK.
! min is all it took for him to be attacked!!

I think Bob is a galah.......if I remember correctly
How is Bob now Dave??? Yes that would be very very scarey and upsetting to both you and Bob. Just try to keep him calm and quiet .......... hopefully he will recover from the shock and his wounds hopefully are not serious.

Yep Bob ia a Galah and been with us for 7 years and never done this!! He is sleeping alot and very quiet, drinking but not eating yet. He seems to have a puncture mark on his wing and maybe one on his lower belly but its hard to tell and I don't want to stress him out too much by handling him, I will try that tomorrow. He still wants cuddles and is hugging his rope which he does when he is sleepy or horny, his foot seems sore too but will see how he is in the morning, fingers crossed!

Just an update on Bob, he is nodding his head a little when I speak to him. He is drinking but still not eating and his poop is a little runny I am hopeing its just because of a lack of solids, it is still greeny in colour so no blood. He still only stays awake for short periods, I got him up and 30min later he was snoozing again so I don't know if thats good or bad.
Bob says thanks for your concern!

He might just be very shocked......if he is not better or looking improved by tomorrow it might not hurt to take him to the vet just to be sure.

I would definitely get him to a vet tomorrow - a raptor bite could introduce some nasty bacteria into his system so a course of a strong antibiotics such as Baytril would be very advisable.
cheers,
Mike

AJ got a bacterial infection when she flew off. I don't believe she was attacked by anything (she didn't have any wounds) but she was out overnight in the rain. Get Bob checked out - I was so relieved when AJ came home that I didn't think about anything like that - until it was pointed out to me here! Our pink chickens aren't quite as tough as they like to make out.
Get well soon Bob!

Just got back from the Vet with some powdered antibiotics for his water. The talon puncture wounds are healing on his stomach really well and the wing is not broken but has a lager talon wound which is healing well. He made a hell of a noise when she checked his wing and let my wife know about it via her finger but he did have a short fly in the exam room and was generally really well behaved and even sat on my shoulder for the initial consult. He is eating at the moments but still spent most of the day asleep but it looks like he was lucky this time, there had better not be a next time. I will have to make a blockade for the base of the cage to stop it from happening again although I don't think Bob will forget this for some time. Thanks for hoping he gets better!

Bob is doing much better now he is eating and starting to play tug of war with his rope with my wife and daughter. Unfortunately his trust account with me seems to be empty at the moment, it seems I am paying for the vet visit and perhaps the getting eaten business I think it will be a while before things are normal again!

unfortuneatly he is probably now associated the attack from the bird and you coming to save him.....you will need to work on his trust again.
It is sort of like when I was pregnant with my youngest who is now 8 years old the neighbours jasmine was flowering and normally I don't mind the smell........but while I was pregnant I am violently ill........and now when I smell that jasmine..........I am taken immediately back to the feeling of severe morning sickness (actually it is 24/7 sickness for me).
Just be patient with him and show him that you are not the bad guy here......he will eventually come around.

Poor baby. He'll come good before you know it. AJ was the same with me after her night out - like she blamed me for getting lost. It's great that he's doing well. AJ says 'wings!' while putting them up for him

Bob has been put in his outside cage for the past 2 days and we have redesigned his exit path so we don't have a repeat of last week.
Unfortunately he just sits in a corner not eating or drinking while he is outside and does not move, he is very jumpy and fearful; hopefully he gets over it in time and gets back to playing and exploring his cage!

Poor Bob is absolutely traumatised, and who could blame him, he is probably associating you with the terrifying event. It may take quite a while for your "account" to be filled up. Be patient.
