I decided to try a new foraging method with Trouble earlier this week, and must say I was most impressed at how quickly he figured it out and the way he did it. What I did was put some food (including a nutriberry to entice him) inside a coop cup, then covered it with newspaper. When I placed it in the holder I made sure that the edges of the newspaper were underneath the 'band' of the holder so it wouldn't be easy to move off. Then I poked a couple of holes in it to give him something to start from. Well, the first day he just sat and headbutted at one of the holes until it got big enough for him to stick his head through and get the food. It worked, but it lacked his usual style haha. However, he's refined his method now. What he does is bite around the edge of the bowl, perforating the newspaper until he can lift it up like a flap and have plenty of room to get the food. It's quite funny to watch him, as I purposefully picked the smallest bowl and stuck it in a place a little hard to get to in order to make him work more - watching him turning circles biting through the paper is a guaranteed laugh at the moment! ;D

Very clever of Trouble and what a great idea ;D My aviary birds all have coop cup holders in place for everyday fresh bits I might try the covering and see how they cope

Yeah, just make sure that when you cover it you let them see some of the yummies going in. Trouble checks just about anything I put in the cage now for food 'just in case' but they might need a little more incentive to go investigating if they aren't used to having to rip or tear through things to get at the food.
