I keep reading on this site that ringnecks aren't cuddly touchy-feely birds. Is this true of all ringnecks? I have a 6 month old IRN and he loves to cuddle he puts his head under my chin and will lay there for hours letting me pet him. will he grow out of this and not like it anymore? or do I just have an exception to the rule bird. He is so sweet I don't ever want him to grow out of this.

I think there are always exceptions to the rules. I have heard alot of people say that ringies need constant attention to stay nice and tame. It depends on your interpretation of alot of time I guess. My tame girl did go through the bluffing stage and was quite aggressive but she soon grew out of it. I can easily pat her but she is not into alot of cuddles or an overly affectionate nature, compared to my other tame birds that is. I have gone away for a weeks holiday and had someone look after the birds but not handle any of them and my girl was just the same, (if not slightly clingier for a short time when I came back lol ). I have her in the aviary now and go in there about 4 or 5 times a day. She still comes when called etc. I think males are meant to make "better" tame birds than the girls. I don't have a tame male, (yet ) to compare with. Last year, my babies I handraised were very cuddly when I sold them. They were about 4-6 months old when sold. I have kept in contact with 2 of the buyers and they are very happy with the birds. One guy is coming back for another bird this year lol. All in all, I think it just depends on the birds nature, the up bringing and how much time, love, training and patience you spend with your bird as to the birds tameness. Sounds like you have a "good one" there. But there still is time for the bluffing stage to show through lol. So whatever you are doing is working for you and the bird ;D

Yeah I agree with Tash, there's always exceptions. When my Sunshine (lutino ringy) was alive she loved to snuggle into my neck when she was on my shoulder but no one else could get near her.

I have hand-reared ringnecks and one is just delightful. Not all are hand-reared, but generally the ones that are seem to be very good natured.

My guy definatly hand reared and she spent allot of time loving on her babied. she is a great breeder and really socializes her baby's well. The only thing I wasn't happy with is his wing clip. I would have prefered her to only clip 3or4 primary flights rather than all of them. other than that I couldn't ask for a nicer, sweeter. more lovey baby. he is so sweet he even gets along with my other birds. He hangs out with my cockateils on their playtops all day.
