Hello I am new to the forum and would like a question answered if possible. I have got four irn. Wondering what time of year they breed as I am in victoria? I have 1 male green split dun fallow, 1 blue male, 1 blue female and 1 cinnamon female. The green male and blue female have paired up. Wondering what colours I would get out of these two? And if the other two pair up what coloured chicks would they be? Will I have to separate the parents from the chicks after they have left the box? Would be much appreciated if anyone could help.

I think you would have to test breed them to see what chicks they throw. It would also depend on what splits the parent birds carry that your not aware of. Ringnecks go to nest about now up north i think a bit later in the southern states. I don't see why the chicks can't stay with the parents after they have fledged.
Good Luck with the coming season,
Robyn.

:)thanks for the tips. put two boxes in their cage the other day seems as though someone is sleeping in 1 of the boxes as there is lots of poo in 1 box . are they using the box as a hotel? lol ;D Oh well may have missed the breeding season, we will see what happens, although there is alot of action in the communale cage which has two pairs of red rumps and two pairs of princess parrots, one blue, one green split and two wilds. seems one pair of red rumps have started to nest, we don't see her very much if not at all. The other pair of red rumps have just started to use a log. all princess parrots are showing signs of coming into season. so fingers crossed we may have some chicks on the way. had to remove the rosa bourkes from the communale cage as the male princess parrot was clucking and dancing for the female rosa. Must have had his wires crossed. lol. He is now focused on his own breed.

My guess is that you might get either grey or blue though I'm no genetic expert. I have never seen a pied ringneck!!!!! My female is spending a lot of time in the box but she is not pals with the male. Last year she layed eggs but they were infertile.
