Hiya all, I just rescued two Ringnecks from a guy who no longer had the time to take care of them (you could tell..the poor little guys, their cage was absolutely feral, seed-only diet, green water, and as you can see their feathers aren't in the best condition) But I'm going to get them healthy! ;D In the meantime, I'd like to know their ages, genders, and colours. I know one is a male Grey, probably about 1-2 years old..The other, I'm not sure. Maybe a Cinnamon Blue? Female? I don't even know his/her age, other than that it is probably younger than the Grey... Pics!

I don't know much about the IRN's different colours.........but I was wondering if the one with the pale ring is a male? As for colours.......they are very pretty. They look like they are probably moulting too which makes them look pretty ratty. My alexandrines are all moulting at the moment and their aviary looks a mess......looks like someone has plucked a bird ;D and they look very ratty at the moment.

I was wondering if they are siblings. Looks like Pastels to me but it's been a long time since i had anything to do with ringnecks. The 2 year old should start to show a colored ring after this moult if it's a male & be fully colored after the 3rd year moult. But sorry no you can't tell what age they are at the moment. If you really want to know their sex you could have a DNA test done , either do it yourself or get a vet to do it or even a breeder if you know one.

They are both in heavy moult at present - ringnecks look very moth-eaten during their moult, but by the end of the year should be back to being very smart and pretty. Age is impossible to estimate - once they get beyond the baby stage it just isn't possible.
Neither is a grey - both are probably pastel blues, which can be quite variable in shades of blue. Wait until they finish moulting and repost their photos and we should be able to give a better opinion.
cheers,
Mike
