Keeping lorikeet(s) with other parrot(s) together?

Hey all fellow bird lovers.

I just have a question to ask, is it possible to keep a lorikeet in the same aviary/patio cage as a seed/pellet eating parrot? Or is this clearly a no-no since they have different diets?

I did it for a while........but was told it was not the correct thing to do because lorikeets definetly are not supposed to eat seed.........so I separated them but apart from that they appeared to get along ok.

Someone with more knowledge on the subject though will probably give more accurate info.

I also had a lorikeet in with a conure. They got along so well....in the end, the conure was eating all the lorries dry food etc lol.....so we seperated them just in case it wasn't good for him. He wouldn't eat seed then, so we had to wean him off the "good stuff"....lol. They are now in seperate cages next to each other

We used to keep lorikeets and other parrots in our aviaries at our shop Kat, but I was never a fan of keeping them together in a cage. It can work depending on their personalities but Rainbows in particular can be quite dominating, and they tend to play differently - lorikeets are much more boisterous in general. Diet is a factor but not a major factor. If a conure eats lorikeet powdeers or a lorikeet eats some seed it isn't a big deal, unless they totally neglect the food meant for them.

It can work but more likely it won't - always have a Plan B

At the moment, I have my pet galah in a huge patio aviary housed with my pet rainbow lorri. I have just recently done this as their old cages fell apart (they lived in a single double storey cage - seperately, one on top of the other, so they already knew each other well).
Polly (the galah) leaves Spunky (the lorri) alone unless he tries to bother her, he's learnt that bothering her is not a good idea as she will retaliate with a nip or a peck but she's not violent, so at the moment they seem to be ok in there together.
Polly likes to keep to her self and mainly hangs outside of the cage on her perch during the day.
Spunky has heaps of toys in there to keep him occupied so he's pretty happy aswell and doesn't bother Polly, he tries to be friends with her but she snubs him, ..... so, so far, so good. Both him and Polly are allowed to get out of the cage and wander freely.
Polly is fed on pellets and has her bowl up very high. Spunky has his feed bowls on the bottom of the cage so that when he eats it doesn't fly the bits of food everywhere. She keeps out of his bowls and he tends to keep out of hers....though I'm sure if he had a pellet or two, it wouldn't hurt him. I don't feed any of them seeds except for the occassional treat for Polly.

So I guess I will just monitor them and see how it goes.

Depends on what lorikeets, the smaller lorikeets like the varied will not even look at the seed and are very peaceful and friendly, the problem is that they could get bullied. :-)

I have had a pair of Rainbows in with Crimson Rosellas and IRNs for years as I don't have the space to separate them and haven't had any problems. The Rainbows have learnt that I put their wet mix and fruit in a special bowl and come up for it immediately. I think all three species can be dominating but seem to get on.

I have a musk lorikeet (which is free to a good home if anyone wants it) in with my ringnecks and there seems to be no problems there. But having said that, the poor little musky can't fly. He was brought to me as a patient, and now he seems to have made himeself at home here. The ringnecks don't touch his food, and he doesn't touch the ringnecks food. I guess I'm just lucky. But when the fruit and veg goes in - they all eat that!
