I'm looking for a good place to buy large cages, possibly online as the cages I'm looking at in my local pet store seem to be twice the price...
does anyone know a good online website? or a cheap retail store in victoria? no longer then a 2-3hour drive from melbourne preferably.
thanks!

Yes I got Wazzles cage from them too, but not through Ebay. They have a private store, and it's cheaper normally.

I use Ebay or Grays Online for most things.

wow! that cage size was $699 at my local pet store! thanks heaps, I will definitely have a look at their other cages. That cage on Ebay is cheap construction - bar spacing at 3 cm is too wide for most birds - danger of getting a head stuck - and the bars themselves are thinner than is desirable - an Alex would probably bend them, increasing the risk of heads getting stuck. The bar spacing would be OK for a large bird such as a Sulphur-crested Cockatoo, but the bars are too thin to be safe. I would also not be surprised if the weld quality is poor and bars will easily break away from the cross bars, increasing the danger to the bird. I am afraid with cages it is very much a case of getting what you pay for - better quality means higher price and there is tremendous variation in the quality of cages coming out of China.. The $699 cage probably wholesaled at around $400 and the Ebay cage is being wholesaled direct to the public at $199 - both will be marked up a similar amount by the importer, so if two similar cages are being imported at $100 and $200 there is a reason - quality. I sold cages for 20 years - I know what to look for and I've seen just about every problem/danger that is possible in a cage! cheers, Mike

I'd have to say I am very pleased with the quality of the cage I bought from GT Mall. I orginally bought it for my Major Mitchell, but now my Eckie boy is in there......the welding and construction have been awesome.......Not saying you aren't correct Mike, I too have seen the difference in quality - but the one I have is great. No bent bars, no damage....safety doors etc etc.... That's only my opinion though, if you were to look at it, you might see something I have missed. Thanks

It sure can be iffy buying online, for sure. I am really happy with mine from GT Mall, too. I read heaps of reviews and looked really closely at the specs. I guess I've been really lucky with getting stuff online.

I got wallys cage from GT Mall, hubby is a welder and went over it carefully and said its all stuck where it should be LOL, I also wiped it down with vinegar, and love the doors for the food dishes, we didnt put the seed skirt on, it only takes a minute to vacum the bits up and it has become quite a game now LOL We simply could not afford the $600 from the pet store. Oh and I must add that wally found us, an unexpected new arrival in the family, so the best we could afford at the time

Can't comment on the bird cages but I got my spare rat cage from GT Mall. It isn't as strong as the usual $320 rat cages we buy on line from EBay but at $160 it was still very well made. They shipped it very quickly and I only had to pay $30 freight to Perth which was a bargain. The EBay people charge us $75 freight to Perth.

I have 2 GT Mall double Macaw Cages. The oldest one is only from October 2010. It's an inside cage & is already showing rust where my lorikeets splash their bath water.

The other problem I had with them was if there are problems, they don't reply to emails & you cant ring them as they do not have their correct phone number listed. There is a number listed when you google them, but that number is not correct. I did end up with a problem with the 2nd cage I ordered. I could only get them to respond by putting in a PayPal dispute. Their delivery is quick, their prices good, but if you have a problem, don't expect them to rush to help you out. This is an example of the rust that was on 2 panels on the 2nd cage when it was delivered. The panels were eventually replaced, but it took the PayPal dispute. My emails & website contacts were ignored. And now rust is starting to appear on the first cage, which is only around 5 months old.

Oh no that is a shame. My rat cage as I said is a spare so it's hardly used so no problems as yet.

From what another friend who bought the same double macaw cage as me from them & word of mouth elsewhere, either you have a great experience with them or else if problems, well they are not great about it. Maybe too, the issues are only with the Double Macaw cage. It is delivered in 4 huge boxes & for both her and I, one or more boxes were missing with the couriers for a week or so. The problem there was the courier said that GT Mall was their customer, not me. They said they needed GT Mall to request an investigation for the missing boxes, not me. Naturally, GT Mall would not reply to my attempts to contact. A week later, the courier finally found my missing boxes & it was delivered (complete with the 2 rusted panels). What upsets me most about GT Mall is that more than a week of emails & web site contacts went unanswered. As soon as I lodged a PayPal dispute they contacted me. I understand about mix ups & one off damaged goods, but couldn't they have responded without me having to lodge a formal dispute? That's my beef with them. With my friends double macaw cage, some panels were bent. She got sick & tired trying to get GT Mall to rectify. Her hubby did a bit of panel beating & got it to all line up in the end. Maybe the double macaw cages were just a bad batch. Not cheap either, although a better price than I found in store www.gtmall.com.au/double-bird-cage-with-center-divider.htmlThere is a six month warranty on the powder coating, but that time is almost up. Without a phone number for them & no longer having the leverage of a PayPal dispute, I can't gather the energy to contact them re the rust showing up on the 5 month old cage. I just know I'd be ignored (sigh) If not for the rust, they are great cages. I think what I should do is remove the birds temporarily & seal the rust, leaving the repair to cure for a week or so before returning them. I just hate to think of the birds being in a smaller cage while I do it.

Oh & I bought from them direct, not via eBay. I suspect they may be more responsive to customers buying via eBay, as they'd want to protect their feedback rating.
If I buy from them again, I'll try to do so via eBay.
