My birds are starting to show signs of nesting again as spring is in the air, greys are on eggs and galahs are mating regulary. Last years season resulted in 5 greys and 6 galahs.

It's an exciting time of year when they begin breeding. Is it still cold over there?

Ahhh Spring, what a lovely time of the year - for so many reasons. Good to hear it is all starting again for another year for you.
Brrrr, we will soon be experiencing the cold again.

My red fronted macaws have become very protective of there nest box in the last week, so fingers crossed, my african greys are rearing chicks, i havent disturbed them as they may damage they in the scramble around the box if i look but im going to leave them to rear them. My galahs are laying eggs with mixed results, pr1 are sitting 3 infertile eggs, pr 2 ate there eggs, this has never happened before.

They are amazing pictures and great parrots. You must have some really good neighbours with all that noise?

Wow you are having a good season and your summer hasn't even started yet. I am guessing you keep your birds indoors??

You sound like your having a good start to the season Steve, i took a look at your website and you too have some nice birds. you are right that we need to breed birds that are rare in our aviaries before we lose them for good, some that were very easy to get only a few years ago are difficult to find now. I started out breeding finches then parrakeets and progressed onto parrots.

My birds are mostly bred outside in flights. It was -3 degrees two nights ago, very gold but it is getting warmer during the day. I cover my flights with clear damp-proof membrane. Strong clear plastic. It makes my flights during the winter draught free and surpisingly can get nice and warm because it seem to keep the heat in?I would love to breed Parrots but I don;t have the space and my neighbours would have a moan. I'm also frightened of Parrots biting me? Who ever I go round and visit friends their Parrots always seem to have it in for me? Parakeets are great I can deal with them!!!!

My season is a disaster so far with no chicks hatched as yet and currently no birds on eggs.

This has been the worst breeding season ive ever known, ive just lost a 6week old grey the parents were rearing and my galahs are sat on 4 eggs which are dead in shell so still no birds reared this year, my redfronts have just been re sexed and are 2 males but hopefully i have managed to swap a hen so maybe next year will be better.

Sorry to hear you have had such a dud breeding season. Mine was like that last year, all my birds laid were clear eggs. We are just coming into ours so we'll see how things go this year. Can you put anything down to the poor season, weather, etc.

we had a long period of little or no rain in the early part of the season and later on it was very humid which caused dead in shell, on the plus side i had infertile eggs from my young queen of bavaria conures so im hoping they may be fertile next year.
