Just wondering what percentages of colours I could expect to get from a Green split to blue Princess cock over a blue hen.

Thanks Mike, I sort of thought 50% blue 25% split to blue and 25% green
I like the 50% blue 50% split to blue much better

Someone once told me (don't know how true it is) that you could expect a 1 in 8 chance of getting a blue. I have the same combination but so far they haven't bred.

No, Mike is correct. All green coloured birds will be splits, as 1 of the parents is a blue she will give each of her offspring 1 blue gene - this is what makes a split. In this pair the cock is a split - so he will give 50% of his young a normal gene and the other 50% a blue gene - the ones which get the blue gene will be blues. Even when 2 splits are mated you should still get 25% blues along with 50% splits & 25% normals (statistically).

Hi I have a green cock and whaling to X with blue hen, what would happen will I get blue hen chicks with green cock chicks? Or will all the chicks be split blue/green?

Hi I have a green cock and whaling to X with blue hen, what would happen will I get blue hen chicks with green cock chicks? Or will all the chicks be split blue/green? Blue is a recessive gene so to get any blue babies both parents need to carry the blue gene. Your hen obviously does if she is blue but your male does not, so all babies will be green and split to blue. However these days many green princess's are unknowingly split to blue so if that possibility occurs you will get on average 50% blue and 50% green split to blue which can be of either sex. Given it is just about New Year, the chances are you will have to wait until next spring to find out - the vast majority of Princess Parrots have finished breeding by now. cheers, Mike
