Hi I'm wondering if anybody knows anything about crimson wing parrot mutations if any?
I have a two year old pair that are just starting to fully colour up now. Female is normal with the faint yellow scalloping to her back and normal plumage and male is normal except for some yelllow feathers he's getting around his face and head?
Don't know if this is normal at all but haven't been able to find a pic on the net of any with yellow feathers and none I've ever seen have them. Couldn't find any information about pied crimson wings either so have no idea if this is a possible mutation or just an abnormality???
Birds are on a healthy diet of fruit, veg, pellets, seed etc etc and have never had any health problems.
Please any information would be great even if its nothing
cheers

Hi Cant help too much with crimson wing mutations directly, but pretty much all pieds will have white or clear toe nail colouring. The mutation gurus are generally of the opinion that any bird showing pied type colouring that has normal coloured toe nails is probably not mutant, but has aquired colour. Its also worth remembering that pieds can be a dominant mutation. Often single factor birds will show a degree of pied colouring. Rainbow lorikeets are the perfect example of this. Single factor birds are often called streakies, as they show a degree of pied "streaks" on & around the head area. Good luck with him.
