Hi guys, just wanted to know a few things before i decide to get a rainbow lorikeet. 1- how much does it cost to feed a lorikeet 'packet mixes' per week? 2- how much does it cost to feed a lorikeet homemade food per week? 3- how much does it cost for fruit etc. per week?
Thanks in advance!

I get my pair a 1kg of passwell lorikeet food once every 3 weeks which is about $12.00. I give them about a quarter of a cup of dry mix a day. I feed my lorikeets mixed fruit from a tin about 3 times a week and a wet mix mixed up from the juice from the tinned fruit once a week. My birds seem to be healthy and happy with what I am feeding them. I also give them flowering branches when they are available. When I first got them I was spending $25 to $30 a week on them, which was expensive when I didn't have a job so had to think of cheaper and easier ways to feed them but keep them happy and healthy also. Its also alot easier for people to look after them when we go away as no cutting up food for them is required and the canned fruit can be kept unopened in the cupboard for quite a while (defiantly longer than fresh fruit lol). Just make sure that the canned fruit has the natural fruit juice and not the syrup.

I have a pair of Lorries as well.....and they aren't that expensive. I used to have 6 pairs and made my own dry food which was a lot more cost efficient but I wouldn't worry doing it for one pair. Passwell's seems to the the best food for them and they sure do love it!
I also give them 1/4 cup daily plus all their fresh fruit and vegies. They get a wet mix every other day..... Mine love Endive!! Especially Percy - he goes NUTS over it!! But they love all the branches and things as Ebz has said....they really are quite easy to care for. And they are sooo worth it! Runny bums and all - they are just crazy birds that entertain.....wouldn't be without them.....

To start their day, my pair have 5 teaspoons (each) of Passwell served dry. I share my fruit with them & in summer they enjoy watermelon on their kebob. However, fruit is usually given in the form of pureed organic baby food (no sugar or preservatives). Found it less wasteful. mix it in with their wet mix as their evening meal. They also have lettuce leaves daily and corn cobs a couple of times a week. I don't really find them very expensive to keep.
