This week has been busy for me in my avairy's. I have had plenty of fledglings. Two Kakariki's, four Gouldian Finches, five Parson finches, six Java Sparrows, three Chestnut breasted manakins. That's a great feeling!!1 Unfortunately I had one escapee this week. A cock Spice Bird. Wizzzed past me and it took a day for me to work out who had escaped? I putting more sawdust down onto the floor of a avairy to create abit more warmth for the Chestnut Breasted Mannakins, I was really careful and use my little serving hatch which I use to quick feed my birds. I felt a bird whizz past me but couldn't work out who it was. I counted up and was not to sure if any had escaped. I checked all my garden and hedges but to no avail. This morning when I went to feed my birds I could only see a hen Spicebird and the cock was nowhere to be seen? It's the only pair of Spicebirds that I keep so I am very disappointed.

Sounds like your breeding season is off to a good start Steve, those finches are very fast, I don't know how many we lost when we kept them.

You have had success - that is terrific. Shame about the spice though, I have four of them, they are a delightful little bird. And I am guessing they wouldn't very easy to get over there.

My Spicebird came back but unfortunately one of my Lurcher dogs found it first. I retrieved it from his mouth but it was dead. Very sad! Good news today I have another four Java Chicks fledge today. Look like they will all be different colours (Amazing). Cockbird is a normal that is split for Silver & Fawn and the hen bird is Fawn. It will be hard trying to replace the spicebird but I will try at the EAST of ENGLAND BIRDSALE on Sunday 5th June.
