Bird safe dyes

I plan on making a bunch of toys before I get my bird.

My question is which dyes are safe to use?

A link to an Australian supplier would also be great !!!

We've just used food dyes such as are used to colour icing. Make up a solution and place the wood in it for a period - might need a bit of experimentation to get the right concentration and time sorted out.

Harmless to the bird but the only problem is the colour runs out if you wash the toy - if it lasts long enough to need washing.!
