Hello everybody, I had a young pair with two babies and for the first two weeks of their lives, both parents were very committed and constantly fed and looked after the babies. Then one morning I found both babies dead in the nest and with the female still keeping them warm. I checked the babies and there was nothing suspicious and they both felt very plump and healthy and nor were there and bites etc so I am confused as to why they died.
Does anyone have any answers?

Sorry for your loss Ross. These kinds of things happen unfortunately and a lot of the time, there is no obvious answers. Some of the more experienced people might comment more.....What sort of birds are they? How young are the parents? Are they related?

Hi Flossy and thanks for the response. They are peaceface and roughly around 12 months old. They are from two different breeders so there is no chance they are related.

Hi Ross I don't know a lot about peachfaces unfortunately......but it could have been a number of things. Even inexperience from the parents could play a part - but yet you said they had full crops etc. Mother nature works in mysterious ways and perhaps there was something wrong with the bubs....I have lost babies in the same way - and there is never an answer without an autopsy etc.....Even some of my most brilliant breeders - they will have clutch after clutch of healthy chicks and then bam! a dead clutch....so who knows! As I said, I am sure one of the more experienced breeders will comment on here and give you some sort of insight into some possible problems.
Goodluck with them and perhaps their next clutch will be more successful...... Flossy
