Hi everyone,
Just wandering if anyone knows where I can buy Lineolated Parakeets in Sydney. They sound like they have a wonderful, easy going character.
Cheers, Jase

Not too sure about anyone that has them. I've been looking too! Maybe we might have luck at the upcoming Bird Sale in Castle Hill??? If you do find anyone, please post their contact details or PM me if you prefer.
Thanks Flossy

I found all names in a Birdkeeper mag. Don't know if they are still available. I also think that the price is still rather high. Not to many breeders in Australia. Good luck at the bird sales.

Thanks for the contacts Robyn!
I recently bought a lovely little Tiel, and feel a little guilty when I leave her on her own. I was looking for a companion for her and during my research came across the 'Linnies'.
I'll let you know how I go at the bird sales in Castle Hill.
Cheers, Jase

last I heard they were still over a $1000 each, with some colours up over $2000 - but that is a few months ago and expensive birds are a difficult market to sell in at present, so the price might well be dropping.
cheers,
Mike

That's a lot of money... Might have to think again about a Linnie. That's quite an investment. I wonder what they are worth in the US?

Ouch! That's a lot of money... Might have to think again about a Linnie. That's quite an investment. I wonder what they are worth in the US? Back in 2001 when such birds had to be registered with the Federal Government under their NEBRS scheme, there were 6 Linnies in Australia all held by one NSW breeder. Now there are several breeders, but I doubt numbers are much above 200 or 300, even allowing for some illegal smuggling since 2001. Prices in the USA seem to start at around $150 and go up to $500 for the rarer colours such as cobalts. cheers, Mike

I have recently seen them advertised on Pet Link but can't remember where they were located. They are still pretty expensive though. They are becoming more popular now so they might turn up at Castle Hill.

I also was just reading the Gumtree ad's - and in addition to the above.....there was also a guy advertising 3 for $1700 for the lot.....so I guess like everything, they will eventually come down in price! There is hope for us yet Jase....lol! Flossy

I have just seen an ad on Petlink, 3 linnies for $1700 the lot which proves that they are coming down in price. It would be interesting to know how many breeders there are now in Oz.

Thanks for the replies everyone!
After finding out how much Linnies were, and how difficult they were to buy, I'd convinced myself that another Cockatiel would be the best option. I'm not so sure anymore, I don't know if I'd be able to resist if I came across one at Castlehill... they are just too darn adorable.
I suppose Cessnock isn't too far from Sydney either...
