Hi Everyone, I am a new Lorikeet own, Frankie is about 13 weeks old and would like to know how to tame it. He (maybe she) will let me put my hand in the cage and will take the pollen from a wattle from my hand but won't let me pat, or get him on my finger. I've had him for about 2 weeks. I also wondering what other fruit I should give him. I have tried, strawberries, spinch, pears, but will only eat apples and the dry/wet mix. Cheers

Mine wont eat all fruit , grapes are a favourite then apple and pear . They like sultanas and sometimes will have a go at a kiwi fruit . Not very keen on leafy vegies but every now and then they have a go .
I give mine orange juice or juice from tinned fruit every now and then instaed of wet food and they like that too .
They like madiera cake or bird bread . Apart from those ,dry food and fresh water and thats about it .

Just keep offering him food from your hand and getting him use to you , try to do a step up by putting your finger at his front leg (where a knee would be ) and in time he will hop up on command . It all takes time and he has to learn to trust you . Have fun with him they are a great bird.

Thanks, after reading somewhere, I have also discovered Frankie loves, honey on bread. Will keep at it with him.

Theres a lot of negatives to feeding honey in excess , Im not an expert so wont rattle on with why but maybe you could google or even do a search in here on the topic .

My lories must be the odd birds out. They love leafy greens. If I can't get them back in their cage for bed, all I have to do is fill their buffet ball with leafy greens and they are in their cage like a shot. In fact, when they see me walk out of the room with buffet ball in hand, they know I'm going to fill it. When I come back in the bird room, they are always waiting inside their cage, on the perch right next to where they know I will attach the ball. Crazy birds, to love greens so much lol

My Musks love greens , the Purple Crowns will have a nibble and the Rainbows wont even look at it .
Shows how different birds are even within the 1 specie .

Just slowly let Frankie trust you by feeding him and experimenting with which foods he likes and doesnt like. It might take time but be patient, if you have only just got him its a new place and new people to get used to. Good luck with your little guy.
