That's great. What a beautiful sight to see. I love to feed the wild birds. I know I probably shouldn't, but I figure I have an aviary without walls at my place. It costs me a fortune, but worth it.

It is lovely having nature at your back/front door. We have had huge flocks of SC Toos feeding in the trees around my house.
For the last few months large flocks of RTB Toos have been flying over looking for food. Not real sure why but i have never seen them on the coast before. Maybe they food is in short supply after the cyclone.

After I started feeding these two, now theres a whole flock coming. Doesn't bother me, might hurt the wallet a bit though.

I feed all sorts of wild birds at our place, it's called spillage from the aviary We also have a mad Willy wagtail that actually comes into the house and eats all the daddy long legs. I just hope the cat's not around if he does it when we aren't home cos he's just so tame.

This is the reason my seed bill is so high! But hey, it's all worth it. They actually knock on my back door and tell me they want to be fed. I'm really gonna miss them when we move. As you can see in the background, we have started to dismantle some of the aviaries. About 4 weeks and counting.

Oh what a GORGEOUS sight!!! Ellen!!!! They're Australian King Parrots. Another one I want to add to my collection, though I heard they don't really suit as a tame bird?? Is that right? Such a beutiful pic!! I understand Ellen, how could one stop feeding these beauties!
PS. How come you have to move now!!! How long you been there?? Who's taking over?? Where are you going to go now??

They're Australian King Parrots. Another one I want to add to my collection, though I heard they don't really suit as a tame bird?? Is that right? They make great pets - we had a pair given to us by American friends who had to return to the USA and couldn't take them. They were not touchy type of birds, but enjoyed being with us - the male especially. He used to fly into my study in the evenings and sit on top of the monitor watching me at the computer. Still have some dried droppings on the back of the monitor. He could talk quite a bit - very softly but clear, while the female never talked. She was less friendly with us - she seemed to miss her previous owners a lot. Both mixed in fine with the rest of the flock at home, and both had a fascination with the fish tank - they would spend ages watching the fish, the only ones of our birds who have shown any interest in fish. When I had a bad health period in 2007 we had to cut down on numbers - my wife was finding it too hard looking after around 20 house birds, aviaries and a pet shop as well as me - so we gave them to a friend, where they have a great life, and we see them whenever we visit. and get an enthusiastic welcome. They are now about 11 or 12 years old. Some photos follow! cheers, Mike

Thats it! Thanks Mike!
I'm now deffinatelly going to hunt for a one male tame king parrot!!!!
I have actually been thinking about getting a pair of ekkies but just don't know if they'd be too needy etc...I like tame birds but not needy birds....thats why I kinda went of the sun conure in the end ;D. Thats why I like asiatics the best, they're just so cool, happy to hang out, a be admired but don't need constant handling and attention! I love having animals around me...but them still be independent so we all can co-habitate and I don't have to spend individual time handling each one.
Thanks Mike! You done it again!
Next question....Anyone got one for sale???

As for the tameness, these ones are all wild (of course), but they regularly come inside the house and sit at the kitchen table with us! They thrive on attention. I think Kingy's make an excellent pet. We used to have someone on this site that had a pet one, and bless her, she loved that bird! And I am sure the feeling was reciprocated.

We have to move, 'cause there is a dam upgrade happening, and we are in the blast zone. So we have to move out of the house for about 2 years whilst all the work is being done and we are moving over to one of the other houses on the other side of the dam wall. Bit depressing really, we only have 19 parrots left, 20 finches, and of course Chuckles (but I really don't count her as a bird!). We have to move the lot................grrrrrrr.

Thanks Ellen. Re your move....geez, thats sounds like a real hassle. Will you be able to move back after? Do you have to actually move all the aviaries aswell?

Hassle to say the least. We are taking one or two aviaries with us. As we have sold off most of our birds, we won't need to take everything with us. Hopefully when it is all completed we will be able to move back here. But who knows what the future may bring. You never know what is around the corner.
