Howdy all fellow 'keet fans out-there....
I don't know if my suggestion has already been taken and everyone is doing it ;D but thought I'd try and put my 2cents worth in, anyway ;D
If you have a tame pet lorikeet living indoors, like mine, ....rather than lining the bottom of their cage with newspaper, which just gets soggy in a matter of hours, looks unsightly and you end up having to change it daily if not more often, then how about try using kitty litter !? You can use the cheap one from local grocery store or try the crystal ones (more expensive)...seems to work a treat for me !!! (DO NOT buy the clumping litter though, or you'll be peeling of a slab of concrete !!!)
Very easy to clean, you just tip the tray with the LOOSE litter into a rubbish bag. Done. You don't have to change it daily, and it is safe (assuming the grate is high enough from the tray, so the bird can't get to the litter).
Anyways, just thought I'd share.

I think the only one that is safe to use with birds is Maxs Cat litter . Its made from rice husks and when Ive used it , it has done a great job at absorbing bird mess.
Good idea .

Yeah, I've been thinking about using the paper (recycled paper) pellets...haven't tried that one yet. Cheers guys!
Does anyone know, if a bird ever had problems or poisoning or death, from eating cat litter?

Breeders choice is just recycled paper so it should be safe. If you sprinkle some baking soda onto the litter it helps to keep smell down too...

I have been using Max's for awhile & Breeders Choice for years in my baby boxes. I have had a couple of eckie babies ingest some of it. All i did was wash out the crop & all was good, no harm done.
Lately i have been using it in the cage trays to some success. Don't have to replace it for a few days. It's a blessing when your busy.

I think Max's is a good bird-safe one to stick with. I've got friends who use that and say it works wonderfully.

I can't remember the brand I used, but it wasn't Max's. It was an Eco friendly, recycled paper type litter. I stopped using it, because it was costly in a double macaw cage. But it was easy to use and if my cages were smaller, I still might be using it.
