Hi,
I am looking to buy a hand raised sun, nanday or green cheek conure and I'm struggling to find a breeder close to me. I live in Geelong, VIC but can travel to melb and other outer suburbs not too far away... max 2-3 hours from geelong if possible...
Any suggestions on good breeders in these areas would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

I know there is a lady at Pyalong (near Kilmore) Not sure how long it would take you to get there from Geelong. I havent dealt with her but some say she is good. She is currently advertised in Trading Post Pets (google Trading Post)

I have a friend in Cranbourne who is hand raising a variety of conures although I'm not exactly sure which. I can ask her if it's ok to pass her details on to you. PM me if you are interested Cheers Karen

The lady is Pyalong is amazing! My friend bought a conure from her and we made the big drive. She and her husband were so friendly and take great care of their birds. Their conure aviary Aviary-bred conures friendly enough nest in my straw-like hair Would definitely recommend them!

I bought my pearly conure Jaeger from Shangrila aviaries in Pyalong. The breeders, Gay and Mal are very nice and helpful, and were very patient as I spent time choosing my new pet. All the conures are on a great diet with pellets, sprouts and lots of fruit and veg- I've never seen better fed aviary birds. They are all healthy and robust, she has never had any major diseases in her aviaries.
I made the mistake of choosing an older hand reared bird who had been in the aviary for a few months before I bought him- although he had been hand reared he wasn't bonded closely to humans. He didn't respond well to being clipped initially and barbered his feathers until he could once more fly- I will never take away his flight again. He has always responded well to trick training, and shows affection on his terms but doesn't much like hands. Recently he has reached the terrible two's and is very hormonal. He now delights in stepping up to be handled just so he can bite the snot out of my fingers! Cheeky boy.
Jaeger has always been full of life and attitude. He rules the birdroom- even my galah and rainbow lorikeet are afraid of him- yet he sleeps in a cage with my cockatiel and has preened my rainbow before so he certainly can be gentle and sweet. He has even preened me on occasion and used to love kissing my lips (I don't let his beak near my face since he became hormonal, for obvious reasons!).
Jaeger is the cutest of my flock and always calls out when he knows I've come home- calling "baby?" in his funny gravelly conure voice. He can also say "yummy" "Jaeger" and "hello." His feathers are my favourite colours too- green, teal and blue- pearly conures are a real jewel of the conure world and not as appreciated as the green cheeks. Gay told me that pearlies are friendlier yet than green cheeks. I found them to be a little more exotic and rare so that's why I chose a pearly over a GCC for a pet. I hope you'll consider a pearly! They are so underappreciated!
Here are some old videos of Jaeger:
Alternatively, I will be breeding my maroon bellied conures soon and plan to have hand reared babies that are super tame, recall trained, socialized, 'other bird species' friendly, harness trained, reared in a family environment with kids and dogs, if you can bear waiting. If I get my other aviary set up I will also be breeding green cheek conures and there should be normals and possibly cinnamons. Let me know if you're interested.
