Hi all, Just wondering if anyone has any experience or opinions about Nanday conures? From what I've heard and been reading they get along really well with other species of conure. (I know it depends on the individual bird also but in general I guess) Also that they have a pretty obbessive chewing habbits and aren't too high on the loud factor? Any of this false or if anyones got any stories on their personalities would be great to hear them. Just looking for another conure for the future to keep Jingo (Green cheek conure) company. Thanks, Eb

Beautiful birds to look at when mature, generally good personalities, but quite a large bird that can want to be dominant - not sure that I would mix one with a Green-cheek, it may work out OK but it (the Nanday) may be a bit of a bully.
The main problem with them is NOISE!! We tried selling them in our shop at one time but after they kept being returned because of the noise we soon refused to sell them any more. I should have known better in the first place - in the mid 1990's I visited a quarantine facility in England which had a room with 500 wild caught Nandays in it under quarantine (England no longer allows wild caught parrots to be imported) and it was the only time my ears have physically hurt from bird noise.
Not all are noisy but most are.
Best choice as a companion for any bird is one of it's own species
cheers,
Mike

I agree, my Nanday is LOUD!! She's the one that drives us nuts each morning and we have four parrots!
Not a bird for a beginner, and not a bird for those who can't deal with ear-piercing screams. Stunning bird though and she's learned some words and has a squeaky little voice that is just adorable. I love her even though we don't have a hands-on relationship.
She's bonded with my partner and no one can touch her except for him.. i've been able to touch her twice in three years.
She doesn't get on with any of my other birds, including a green cheek but was housed with another Nanday in her previous home. I guess this all depends on the individual bird though.
I'm not sure if my review is for or against... just be prepared for noise if you do get one!
