Hi newbie here and came across this great forum in search of help so I hope I am in the right place.
I am a owner of 2 Eclectus baby's Cherri (female) & Kiwi (male) both now 4 months of age I have owned them since 3 weeks of age. I am also a slave to my 2 handsome Alexandrian boys both 2 yrs old.
Kiwi is so shy and scared and strikes out at anything that comes near him ... hands, fingers offering food treats, toys and the syringe when feeding baby formula he has been a shy boy from day dot.
Cherri is a very confident out going sweetie giving me cuddles, she would climb in my jumper and sleep after feeds, easy to handle and never scared or aggressive but unfortunately that has now changed.
In the past 3 weeks she has starting biting humans and Kiwi and now growls as well she attacks Kiwi all the time, stands over the food bowls x 3 and chases him away, bites and lands on top of him and claws at him.
When allowed out of her cage she fly around attacking and pecking at heads, necks pretty much flesh ... it sure adds a touch of danger when she needs feeding :-)
Both birds are not clipped and I have been advised by a couple of local bird breeders to do so? I have been advised of the following .... cover them with a towel including the head and hold them close too my chest and stroke them for a couple of minutes a few times a day? They are just bad seeds and get rid of them and start again? Stare them down and use a stern voice of NO when Cherri is biting, too re-think there diet which is 98% fruit, veg, nuts, wheat and grains (rice, pasta etc..) and 2% pellets / seed as well as 3 baby formula feeds a day. Separate them from each other in a cage of their own and keep them in another room away from the Alex's which I did put them in another room from the Alex's and it made things worse now when Cherri bites she grinds her beak back and forth like a chain saw to inflict the most damage on what is left of my hands, neck and fingers :-(
I have always wanted to be the proud owner of an Eckie for as long as I can remember and I suppose after so much waiting and research and reading I never came across anything describing this type of behavior so I really could do with some help to find out where I am going wrong?
Any advise would be great :-)
