Hi, I am new to the board. I have 2 cockatiels who I have had for around 4-5 months and I am looking at moving them into an outdoor aviary as I am adding new flights to my aviaries. I am interested in having these 2 in a mixed aviary and would like to know what birds may be the most compatible. I am unsure of their sex but think that one is a male as 'he' whistles and sings alot he is a grey pied this little fellow was a 'stray' that flew into my aviaries and I couldn't find his owners, and the other is only about 6-7 months old and I think is a cinnamon pied. The aviary will be suspended and be 2m long X 90 wide and 1.2m high. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello & welcome to AB cheekybeaks.
I hope you don't mind me saying but your size cage would only hold 1 other pair of birds. Providing you don't want to breed you could have a couple of little grass parrots.
I have 4 suspended cages that size & i only house 1 pair of smaller parrots per cage.

i agree with Robyn, i keep my cockatiels in an aviary with budgies and red rumps ( i have a few issues every now and then between the red rumps and cockatiels ) but the budgies do well.

Thank you for info, I certainly don't want to crowd them. I normally only keep on pair of bird per aviary as well, but thought it may be nice to keep another 1-2 small compatible birds with them. I have been considering rosa bourkes, scarlet chesteds and have also read that Princess parrots and Kakariki may be ok? At this stage I don't intend of breeding any of these birds and would seperate them if I did. Thanks again

I have my cockatiels in with budgies, kaks, plumheads and quails with no problems. I wouldn't put red rumps in as they are a bit aggressive.

Can you have lovebirds with other birds? or are they more of a stick to their own kind of bird?

Can you have lovebirds with other birds? or are they more of a stick to their own kind of bird? No - don't mix lovebirds with other birds they can be aggressive little souls at times. I've even seen them bite off the toe of a Galah! They usually mix fine with each other, although occasionally one will get picked on, but they seem to have a grudge against all other parrots. Having said that I have a large aviary with a peachface and two masked lovebirds along with budgies, cockatiels, finches and small doves - my retirement aviary and non-breeding - with no problem. but it is a case of do as I say and not as I do on this one cheers, Mike

I am new to this. My step father passed away and left me his birds. His has 2 Kaks, 2 Cockatiels and quail. His avairy is built in and I have puthvased an avairy that is 1x2.5x1.8mtrs. Will this be sufficient and will they happily liver in a mixed avairy. Currently the are house together with a seperator. Quail in with the Kaks.
I understand they may need to be seperated to breed but for day to day housihng I am wondering what issues to look for.
