Hi all Well I am happy to say, I am now the proud owner of four new budgies. They are my babies. Why didn't anyone tell me, that budgies were soooo cute, I would've got some ages ago! These fellows aren't tame but they live indoors. There is 2 males and 2 females. The problem I have is that the boy budgies appear to be gay (not that there's anything wrong with that )...they were kissing when I first saw them in the shop, and they still seem to be very much in love with each other, now. One of the females doesn't seem to mind, she just hangs out with them but the other female seems to want a relationship but the boys aren't interested. So she sits by her mirror, glued to the thing. She seems depressed. So what should I do?? Should I put in another extra male in the mix...and then..... will that mean I'd have to add another female in aswell, to keep it equal? Do I HAVE to keep it equal? What is the "general" rule re group mixes with budgies? And my 2nd question was .... can anyone identify their mutations via the pics?? I believe one is a normal green female (the unlucky-in-love one). One is a harlequin (the other female). One is a sky-blue boy. The other boy is cobalt opaline? Any opinions? Thanks in advance x

Are you sure that the two kissing each other are both cocks? maybe they are a cock and a hen.
From the picture i can say that both of the blue color budgies are cocks and the Opaline and green are hens.(you can identify budgies from their top of their beak above their nostrils, the cock's will be blue and the hen's will be brownish)
I hope this information will help you.
Regards,
Mark.

Are you sure that the two kissing each other are both cocks? maybe they are a cock and a hen. Male budgies will often be seen to "kissing" each other. The budgies in the photos are definitely 2 males and 2 females. cheers, Mike

Are you sure they are actually feeding eachother? Do they have food around the beak? Are they preeding each others head feathers?
Because they may be beak tapping each other, like sparring to show off in front of the girls?
It will take a while for them to settle down and decide to pair up and breed.
If they are indeed feeding and preening each other I would pair them up as you want them to be and put them in seperate cages.
With the colours I think you are correct.
Gotta LOve Budgies!!!
edit: If the green hen looks depressed have you wormed them yet? and hows the diet?
