Hi,
I have a lovely little Red-Collared lorikeet and lately he has become very aggressive towards myself and my partner. Once a happy bird who was always with me, now spends most of his time in his cage screaming. When I go to take him out be bites me. I'm at a loss, I love my bird but have no idea what to do.

Is this the bird that had the food injury a couple of months ago? If so did the problems start after that injury and the resultant medication etc?
How old is the bird, and do you know the sex of it? Diet? Other birds around? Cage size, location?
I'm afraid the more information the better chance we might be able to make suggestions.
cheers,
Mike

Hi there,
Great memory, this is the bird that hurt is foot - his foot is all healed up now, he lost 3 toes and now just has skin where is toes would usually be. He's gotten used to walking on it now... he used to hop everywhere.
Mojo is approximately 6 months old now. I bought him at 8 weeks - he's male and eats normal wet mix plus fruits that I put in the cage. He currently has a sweet fruit stick that I bought from the pet shop in his cage. The cage is in our lounge room so he is always with us. When the bird becomes unbarably noisy we put him in the spare room which is nice and quiet. Cage is a good size - considering buying a bigger one when we move into a bigger house.
Basically I feel like Mojo has everything he needs and is always clean and healthy. His injury did cause a change in the bird but not this bad. He backs away and hides in his hut when me or my partner approach the cage. we haven't stired the bird or annoyed it in anyway to result in this behaviour as well.
Thanks

He seems too young for hormones to affect him, so I'm sorry I don't know what to say about the cause of the sudden change in his behaviour. I wonder if Jim McKendry could help. He is a parrot behaviour and enrichment consultant www.pbec.com.au/aboutjim.html

I have a 2 1/2 year old Rainbow Lorikeet that I adopted 6 months ago. His/Her name is Enzo. Enzo's cage is of adequate size and he feeds on powder nectar as well as fresh juiced carrot/apple juice and agave water and occassionally fresh fruits and veggies.
Nothing in his cage or around it has changed and he normally doesn't bite me, however I have been bitten twice the past two days which has resulted in chucks of flesh being torn and bleeding.
I have not had Enzo sexed and do not know the cycle of Lorikeets. Is it possible Enzo is female and having hormonal issues???
