Just wondering about the flea bombs available in the supermarkets. As we have the Bird, dog and cat inside the house I discovered some fleas the other day, but I am wondering about the chemical residue. Of coarse I would take the pets out for the day and place newspaper around the bombs as the can instructs, but would there be residue covering the rest of the furniture that could harm "Birdy Bird" our galah? Would I need to wipe everything down in the house afterwards.
Thanks, Brad

We have used both flea and cockroach bombs at times for 20 years, without any problems with our birds or fish tanks. Our house birds come out of their cages for several hours everyday and we have never wipe down surfaces after use. Of course the birds are not in the house when we use them - their cages are wheeled out onto the verandah for the day, and we ensure the house is well ventilated after the usual 2 hours closed and do not enter period. For the fish tanks we make sure the airpumps are turned off and wrap the top of the tanks in wet towels to seal them off.
Cockroaches and fleas are a fact of life in Queensland, although the cockroaches became a very minor problem once the Asian House Geckos found us.
cheers,
Mike
