Hi Everyone!
I've acquired a mature trio of Eclectus. Well, i know it's an impulsive buy but I have decided to take my chances vs acquiring a young bonded pair. Theodore, Scarlet and Claudia are my 3 beautiful eclectus that arrived in Melbourne from Geraldton, WA. Told one hen lays clear eggs and the other will raise a clutch every 4 months or so. Not sure which is which as they are not banded. Male was in perfect feather but Claudia had some missing toenails i guess from young and some little feathers missing from around her right eye. Guess she was in a fight with Scarlett. Scarlett was in almost perfect feathers except for some very tiny plucking at the back of her neck which seem to have gotton worse. I guess she is brooding as she is always in and out of the nest box. But i also suspect that the other birds plucked at her too.....there is plucking even at the back of the head which only happen recently. I have 2 nest boxes in there. Claudia have never shown any interest in any of the nestboxes till yesterday. She sat on top of one while Scarlett sat on the perch of that very same one. I knew i should have gotten another one but i missed out on the eccky nest boxes at the bird sale and the retail shops are so exorbitantly priced and i only got one at that time, hoping that they might just chose one each. But as always there is never an ideal situation, they are fighting over THE one nesting box one while Theodore seems really amused sitting on his swing watching them.
Should i go get another nesting box asap and put one in. I think i've put the 2 nest boxes too close together too, i'm thinking of putting another one near the safety door but its gonna be so discruptive with all the drilling and i can't bear to think of all the sqwarking that Theodore will do....last night he did that when i tried to clean the floor of the aviary, the pearlies inside my house got so spooked, that one of them flew to a water bucket for the dog and nearly drowned!
Any suggestions will be so much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
