After I bought my 2 hand-fed baby cockatiels from a devoted private breeder, I often wondered if she thought about how her babies were adjusting in their new home. So I decided to write a letter, making it appear as if her newly adopted kids were addressing her:
Hi, Mom!
Just thought we'd write and let you know how we're doing in our new home.
When we first got here we were let out of our box and put on the floor. We didn't know how to act since we were so scared, but here we were, free to snoop and get into trouble. So we followed each other around investigating every nook and cranny while the funny-looking lady who abducted us just sat on the floor and watched us. After a while we got tired of being grabbed every time we tried to play in the spokes of the big bicycle in the living room, so we decided to walk over and check the lady out instead. So after some squawking among ourselves we inched our way up to the big giant that stole us from you and I gingerly put one foot on her leg. She didn't move, so I hoisted myself up with my other foot and we climbed up the big lady until we were at the top next to her face. She just looked at us and laughed. She let us stay on her shoulder for a while and then she "put us to bed". as we were dozing off, we overheard her telling someone on the phone in the living room that "It was love at first chirp"! And she kept calling us these goofy names like, "Sweet Stuff, "Pretty Bird" and "Sweet Pea". But from what we gather I guess our reallnames are Penelope and Princess. Strange lady...
Your Kids
P.S. The lady feeds us these green leaves she calls spinach, and boy do we fight over them!
