My cockatiel seem terrified every time she sees me grab the broom and sweep the kitchen floor. Same kind of behavior with the mop. In fact, anything that resembles a rod or long stick raises her fear level. I'm trying to figure out what kind of predator lives in the wild and resembles a stick that goes around robbing eggs from nests or eating birds...

I don't really think that has anything to do with it really. They just get scared of anything that are unusual. Probably you made a bit of a fuss when she first got scared & now every time you get them out she carries on. My big bossy male Eclectus will scream the house down if i walk past his cage with anything unusual. Even the blue bucket will set him off. What is so funny about it, none of my other parrots are worried about it. Yesterday we bought a new hose to replace they old one, I was sure there was going to be a lot of screaming from the birds, the hose was black with a red stripe. Well to didn't worry any of them. Funny creatures these parrots are. I guess the only advoce i can give you is just ignore her when you do your cleaning she could be doing it out of habit & or attention.
