With great difficulty - Rainbows are one of natures great poopers It can be done but I've never tried. Have a search around and you should find some articles on the Net - personally I think it iwll be near impossible with a Rainbow, their poops are just part of the "fun" of owning a Lorikeet. I just put toilet training a parrot into Google and plenty of hits came up cheers, Mike

I, on the odd occasion board a Rainbow. As soon as he arrives i cover his cage sides & back, leave the front open though., stops a lot of it plastering the wall. Sorry still haven't worked out the floor area except put news paper or a piece of lino approx 1 square meter. It depends how far they squirt. LOL.

Good luck I`ve had Henry for twelve years (scaley breasted lorikeet) and he has no intention of ever caring where his poo lands

Yep.....lorries just like to make a mess! I also cover the sides and back of the cage with contact. I know what you are all thinking, but it does seem to cut down a little on the mess. I also use old quilt covers etc, so that my walls don't get plastered, but about say 30cms up - all around the bottom, I use clear sticky contact. It doesn't stop it all, but it helps....Every few days, I peel it off and start again...... You can get a birdy diaper. I have one for my Jenday conure, you use little makeup pads in them for the "nappy" part.....So that might work while he is young? ? they are closed with a small velcrose strip on the back and you can also attach a lead so it acts as a harness as well Zuri is fine with his, but he was trained with it from a very young age....they do work a treat...although when taking it off, sometimes the "surprise" is nearly as bad as them just pooping wherever! Goodluck and if you do find a magical training tip, be sure to pass it along....lol The joys of lorikeet ownership.......

Hi Flossy's idea about the bird nappy does work, they say change the nappy every 3 hour.s with your bird u may need to change pad more often. But my mane reason for butting in is don't trust the Velcro that attachers to Dipper with the lead not safe bird can break free. So use sep harness & lead over top of Dipper this is safe. Ciao..

Hi Tasha.......mine actually has a reinforced clip on the back as well as the velcro? I've never had him break out of it.....but I can see it could be an issue. I don't actually use the lead much anyway, just the diaper........and yes, definately more often changing the little pad.......but if they do get dirty from it, it's a good reason for a bath right? and there is nothing as funny as a lorikeet having a bath.....so entertaining

Those nappies are called flightsuits right? my Indian Ringneck has one. I would say that covering the back and sides of the cage is a good idea. at least it would stop a bit of the mess, haha. i would also recommend the nappies. he is still a very young bird so training shouldn't be too difficult. u can pick them up for as little as $9.99 (including postage and leads sold separately they could cost a little more), and there are all sorts. You can find them by researching Avian Fashions. hope this helps, BlinkyBill
