Hi all, this has proably been covered before, but I have a terrible ant problem. The ants are outside the avairies & inside. I keep my concrete floors free of food stuff but they are still there & they tend to snack on my feet when I go in there . I have tried ant rid on the outside but it doesn't seem to work. Has anybody got any other suggestions as it is driving me nuts. . Many thanks Anna

Hi Anna, It would suggest that you have a nest somewhere near, if not in the aviary. I would follow the trail of ants back to the nest and poor the antrid directly into the nest. They are really buggers of things to get rid of however i think that this should be your first course of action attack them at their source ;D ;D John

does anyone know what to do for ants in tropical QLD that are in the HOUSE going into the cages in there??? I'm gonna go nuts! So if I turn up on your doorstep with a can of fly spray in my hand, a glazed look in my eyes and mumbling "must kill all ants" just call for a padded car OK! I've already told my Mum that. No matter how clean you are they still come, nests in my kitchen, bathroom, all over the floors, in every room... I can't take it anymore! I know how annoying they are Anna I'm surrounded by them. they even take the lorikeets dry food from the bowl.

Thanks John & Amanda. I beleive the nest is under the concrete in the avairy, hence I can't get to it short of digging up the concrete & I think hubby would not be impressed. They are feral little buggers & I fear I could be just a skelton soon if I can't get rid of them . Cheers Anna

See if you can find the entrance hole Anna and see if you can enlarge a little to pour the Ant Rid in there then cover it in again, it could prove a problem if it is inside the aviary John

Hi Anna, Take a tin of talcom powder with you into the aviary and sprinkle it around while you are in there, ants hate it and won't come near. Hope that helps.
Hi Acacia Wattle.Don't think you can do that in the house though. I have the same trouble with my lorikeet whose cage is inside but I spray the legs of the stand with surface spray and it stops them getting in the cage. Move the bird away while you do it of course.

I've tried spraying surface spray outside, inside with fish tanks covered, using insect repellant (it comes in pump action, much better) all over the table the cage is on and they still swarm this house and everywhere else. I can't wait to move! ;D I'm hoping for Melbourne again, then I can go to bird shows and spend lots of money ;D ;D ;D

Hi Acacia Sorry to hear you can't wait to leave Townsville. It is a nice place that's where I come from originally but I have been in Brisbane a long time. It's probably got to do with the climate up there although I don't remember the ants that bad. Maybe there's some rain coming!!!

Nope no rain, ants are always bad here. Even before I moved up Hubby was complaining about the ants and we didn't have any food in the house yet. I love my winters, I'm originally from the North coast of NSW so I love a good frost

Thanks everyone for your advise. I will try Ollie's suggestion of talcum powder as I can't get to the entrance of the ant nest . I think they have been so active as we haven't had rain for yonks. Bring on the rain ;D. Many thanks Anna
